Japan Tour

Due to the recent disasters in Japan it is with great disappointment that we have had to cancel the proposed trip to Japan. With question marks still surrounding the country and the inability to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the tour, it was the only solution given the unfortunate circumstances. We have not ruled out a tour in the future but will now focus on the Under 18 Tour of Indonesia in October.

Trainee Coaches Free of Charge!

Our “Mini Pro” Basketball Program has been designed so that children and coaches can learn to play and teach basketball in an enjoyable, fun and friendly environment. “Mini Pro” is arguably the best program of its kind in Australia due to our unique “Colour Band” system. Our Colour Band System gives both children & coaches great confidence & enjoyment by allowing them to progress with skills at their own pace and individual ability level.

Just like Martial Artists we have regular “Skill Gradings.” When children & coaches demonstrate at our gradings that they are competent with all skills at one colour level, they then progress to the next, on average completing our introductory levels within about twenty weeks.

The amount of time taken to graduate from our advanced and elite levels depends entirely upon how much time, commitment and hard work a player or coach is willing to give. After graduating through the introductory colour levels children and coaches are ready to start playing and coaching in competition games with confidence, new friends and lots of fun!

If you want your child to be confident, fit, make new friends and have fun in a safe but challenging environment, or you are a coach wanting to learn the game at higher levels, then make sure you contact us NOW to find out how easy it is to get started.

To fast-track skill development it is preferred but not compulsory, for future "Pro Players" & Coaches to practice their new skills at least 3 times a week.

Become a “Mini-Pro” Player or Coach TODAY! Contact Jennelle Cameron on email: [email protected] or call 55944108.

Gold Coast Scody All-Stars

Gold Coast Blaze Co-Captain, James Harvey and Blaze team mate Pero Vasiljevic have accepted invitations to team up with the Gold Coast Basketball Association ISL Select team who are headed to Surabaya, Indonesia from May 16th - 22nd. The team will compete in a 6 team round robin tournament against professional teams from Indonesia, Malaysia and China. The tournament is an internationally recognised event run by

Gold Coast Regional Basketball Association Issue 10, April 2011 the Jawa Pos Organisation who are the largest media corporation in Indonesia. One game will be televised daily and the tournament will also feature a dunk contest, three point shoot-out and a skills challenge. The Gold Coast team is balanced across the board and contains ISL stars Daniel Simanic (currently playing ABA in Tasmania), Josh Darragh (former American College standout) and Troy Pinkerton (former Gold Coast ABA big man) along with numerous younger players who impressed tour Head Coach Joel McInnis enough during the first successful season of ISL to earn invitations into the team. With the calibre of players like Harvey and Vasiljevic, the team quickly secured a major sponsor in locally based company Scody sportswear and will be known as the “Gold Coast Scody All-Stars”. The upcoming Men’s tournament invitation follows on from a newly formed link between the Gold Coast Basketball Association and Indonesia Basketball. In October 2010 the Gold Coast under 18 boys and girls teams competed against the Indonesian High School National Teams in exhibition matches in front of over 5,000 spectators at DBL Arena, Surabaya. The tour also further strengthens the growing relationship between the professional (Blaze) and amateur (GCCRBA) basketball organisations on the Gold Coast and will provide an amazing and rare opportunity for the Gold Coast Basketball Association’s younger tour players to play with and learn from professional players Harvey and Vasiljevic.

The Blaze have completed the NBL season in 6th spot on the ladder. With a season riddled with injuries, they will look to build their squad for 2011/2012 in the off season, having already retained the services of Anthony Petrie, James Harvey, Tom Garlepp, , Chris Goulding and Stephen Hoare. The Blaze ended their season in style with their awards night held at Movie World, announcing season awards for MVP – Ira Clarke, Community Award – Chris Goulding, Members MVP-Mark Worthington, Defensive Player Of The Year – , Coaches Award and Players Player – Stephen Hoare.

These products are available for purchase through the GCCRBA office. Competition balls are for sale for just $60 and strapping tape is just $8. Rubber balls are $18. Contact the office for more information.

Dribble Goggles

These dribbling aids are available for purchase from our office for $10.00. Dribble goggles help develop good fundamentals in basketball handling, by forcing players to dribble without looking at the ball. As a player, having your head up allows you to watch opponents and make better passing, shooting, and dribbling decisions. The Dribble Goggles will not interfere in shooting the basketball. To order please call the GCCRBA Office.
