Miss Sallie Bingham, the author of The Wall As easily as it uplifts our hearts Between is brought to the Mary Moody Northen Theatre as the first participant of our New Women's Plays and Playwrights ?rogram. It is the world of the Performing Arts This new program screens new plays from across the nation and And we are pleased that you are sharing selects one to be produced as part of our major season. The playwright is brought to our campus to work with theatre faculty and students with Part of it with us her play. Through this program we hope to encourage and foster not only new plays and playwrights, but also a better understanding and appreciation for women's issues and ideas. Working with Miss Bingham has been not only a pleasure but also a rewarding educational experience for both faculty and students. We hope you will share in the excitement of this new aspect of our program by your continued patronage and support. Donald W. Seay Director of Theatre MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM Answering the needs of those who are sick and do not have a ride to a doctor's appointment forms the basis of the Austin Volunteer Medical Transportation Program. This program, almost a year old, is a joint project of the Austin Volunteer Center, Lutheran Social Services, the Adult Services Council, the Texas Department of Human Resources and St. Edward's University. A concern for the program was expressed by 50 public and private agencies within the City of Austin. Rides to the doctor's are coordinated through dispatchers in the St. Edward's Information and Referral Center. Persons over the age of 60 now have a means of getting to their medical appointments, largely due to the efforts of 38 volunteers, many of them SEU students and faculty and staff members. Coordinator of the program is Marion Straubel. To date, over 100 persons have benefitted from the ride program. Most of the drivers have expressed a genuine feeling their time and efforts are worthwhile. The t!! riders are appreciative of the rides, since for many this is their only ~IRSTCllY means of getting to and from their medical appointments. WHITE Appalachia in 1934, undertaken by a New York photographer, Doris FRIENDS: Ulmann, and a folksinger, John Jacob Niles. *MARYANN ANAMOSA As a fiction writer, Sallie Bingham has published two collections of *KAREN BOATRIGHT short stories- "The Touching Hand," Houghton Mifflin Company, 1968 *DR. JOHN BUTEN *DENISE CLARK and "The Way It Is Now," Viking Press, 1972. A novel, "After Such *DORIS CONSTANTINE Knowledge," was also published by Houghton-Mifflin, 1959. EDWARD'S UNIVERSITY MARK LAND IS MARY MOODY NORTHEN THEATRE presents After comp letin g his MFA in directing from Western Illinois; Mr. Landis found himself employed in a large variety of THE PREMIEREPRODUCTION jobs ranging from stage carpentry to box-office / public relations, of stage management to acting and directing in both Regional Theatre and Summer Stock. In "THE WALLBETWEEN" 1978 he became Director of Educational Programs for the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis by SALLIE BINGHAM where he taught workshops in acting, voice, and movement, (Women's Play and Playwright Program) and he created a series of lesson plans for teachers to use in conjunction with the theatre's productions. He h as also developed and co-taught a course in "Story Theatre" improvisational acting with PRODUCTION DESIGNER playwright-actress Addie Walsh. Recently, he served on a pilot JIM CARROCCIO community project for the Illinois Arts Council by teaching acting to a group of about 40 non-actors from ages 5 to 70. Mr. Landis uses this wide and varied training in the various classes he teaches at St. Edward's COSTUME DESIGNER University ....
