A total of 82 participants from 15 Mid-Eastern and African countries attended.. The purpose of the workshop was to assist each country to prepare a work plan for information and education activities related to population programs. A major feature of the workshop was the development and use of two simulation exercises. The first exercise describes a country called Arcadia,H which had no population policy and no real interest in developing a population program. With the help of resource advisors, country teams were systematically lead through the educational problem; setting clear objr'ctives and deciding program strategy for achieving objectives. The second exercise described a country called 'Walhalla," which had a stated policy to reduce population growth rates and a large r. of established clinics, largely unused. Again, conference participants worked at solving the problem of information dissemination and changing attitudes. The workshop was sponsored by the Iranian Ministry of Health, the Carolina Population Center, and was funded by the Middle East Office of The Ford Foundation, Beirut, Lebanon. A total of eighty-two (forty-seven from Iran) participants from fifteen Mid-Eastern and African countries attended the workshop. Through a special request of the Agency for International Devel- opment (Washington, D.C.) a delegation from the Philippines also participated. Six observers from international agencies attended, along with ten resource advisors from four countries. Thirteen Iranian resource advisors participated. A complete list of delegates and resource advisors is provided in Appendix A. The purpose of the workshop was to assist each country to prepare a work plan for information and education activities re- lated to population programs. A secondary purpose was to clarify to delegates the importance of these activities in their population programs. We feel the first objective, was pretty well achieved plans were completed by all country teams. In addition, three provincial plans were developed for Iran, including an experimen- tal research design for the Ishfahan communications research project. One noteworthy feature of the workshop was the development and use of two simulation exercises. The first exercise describes a country called "Arcadia" whi-± had no population policy and no real interest in developing a population program. After reading a fairly extensive description of Arcadia, participants were asked: "What should the information and education officer of the Family Planning Association of Arcadia be doing?" With the help of re- source advisors, country teams were systematically lead through the educational problem: setting clear objectives; deciding pro- 7 6 gram strategy for achieving objectives; selecting target groups; list- ing activities to reach the target groups and finally; the scheduling of activities on a monthly basis. The second simulation exercise described a country called "Val- halla," which had an entirely different educational problem. Val- halla has a stated policy to reduce population growth rates; it also has a large number of established clinics, largely unutilized. Val- halla's information and education problem is to recruit patients into existing facilities. It seemed to the organizers that the participants enjoyed work- ing through the above simulation exercises. They were successful probably because they weTe able to look at problems in Arcadia and Valhalla objectively, without reference to real or imagined barriTrs. If barriers were brought up ("How much money does the Progfam Office have to allocate?"), resource advisors simply changed the ground rules. ("Let's assume he has all the money required.") The simulation exercises, then, were the keystones on which delegates based systematic studies of educational and promotional problems in their own countries. During the workshop, each day began with the presentation of a major paper. (See Appendix B.) Since papers were distributed to delegates one day prior to presentation, speakers were encouraged not to read their papers, but to spend thirty to forty-five minutes discussing major points. Each presentation was followed by a panel discussion, then by floor discussion. Each delegate served on a panel sometime during the conference. Group sessions, held each afternoon, consisted of four to six delegates and a resource advisor. After completion of the two simulation exercises, country work plans were developed with the help of a questionnaire completrA by the delegates prior to their arrival in Teheran.     11 Interview with Bahman Jalali1 By Catherine David2 Catherine David: Among all the Muslim countries, it seems that it was in Iran where photography was first developed immediately after its invention – and was most inventive. Bahman Jalali: Yes, it arrived in Iran just eight years after its invention. Invention is one thing, what about collecting? When did collecting photographs beyond family albums begin in Iran? When did gathering, studying and curating for archives and museum exhibitions begin? When did these images gain value? And when do the first photography collections date back to? The problem in Iran is that every time a new regime is established after any political change or revolution – and it has been this way since the emperor Cyrus – it has always tried to destroy any evidence of previous rulers. The paintings in Esfahan at Chehel Sotoon3 (Forty Pillars) have five or six layers on top of each other, each person painting their own version on top of the last. In Iran, there is outrage at the previous system. Photography grew during the Qajar era until Ahmad Shah Qajar,4 and then Reza Shah5 of the Pahlavi dynasty. Reza Shah held a grudge against the Qajars and so during the Pahlavi reign anything from the Qajar era was forbidden. It is said that Reza Shah trampled over fifteen thousand glass [photographic] plates in one day at the Golestan Palace,6 shattering them all. Before the 1979 revolution, there was only one book in print by Badri Atabai, with a few photographs from the Qajar era. Every other photography book has been printed since the revolution, including the late Dr Zoka’s7 book, the Afshar book, and Semsar’s book, all printed after the revolution8.

Blood samples were collected from 240 dogs in different areas of Alborz and Tehran Provinces and initially analyzed using the immunofluorescent antibody (IFA) test to detect anti-Ehrlichia canis IgG antibodies. Subsequently, nested PCR was performed based on a fragment of the 16S rRNA gene of E. canis on serologically positive samples. The results showed that 40/240 dogs (16.6%) presented anti-Ehrlichia canis IgG antibodies and that nine of the blood samples from the 40 seropositive dogs (22.5%) contained E.

ISBN 978-91-554-9577-0 The present study explores the image of the Islamic Revolution, the concept of the hero, and the concept of martyrdom as depicted in ten post-Revolutionary Persian novels written and published in Iran compared with ten post-Revolutionary Persian novels written and published in exile. The method is based on a comparative analysis of these two categories of novels. Roland Barthes’s structuralism will be used as the theoretical tool for the analysis of the novels. The comparative analysis of the two groups of novels will be carried out within the framework of Foucault’s theory of discourse. Since its emergence, the Persian novel has been a scene for the dialogue between the five main discourses in the history of Iran since the Constitutional Revolution; this dialogue, in turn, has taken place within the larger framework of the dialogue between modernity and traditionalism. The main conclusion to be drawn from the present study is that the establishment of the Islamic Republic has merely altered the makeup of the scene, while the primary dialogue between modernity and traditionalism continues unabated. This dialogue can be heard in the way the Islamic Republic, the hero, and martyrdom are portrayed in the twenty post-Revolutionary novels in this study.

Callimorpha dominula rossica K o l ., Axiopoena kareliniMtu., Utetheisa lotrixCr ., Watsonarctia deserta B a r t ., Diaphora mendica C l . are recorded from this country for the first time. Four new subspecies, Arctia caja mazandarana subspec. nov. from the Caspian Coast, Eucharia festiva hormozgana subspec. nov. from South Iran, Watsonarctia deserta elbursica subspec. nov. from the Alburz Mts., and Pbragmatobia placida mirzayansi subspec. nov. with a pale coloration, from the high mountains of the Albourz are described. The analysis of the Arctiinae fauna shows that the fauna of South-Eastern Iran is the Oriental, and not Palearctic. The pavilion of Ahmad Shah Qajarwas built in the late Qajar period.During the reign of the Pahlavi Dynasty , a modern built mansion named Niavaran House was built for the imperial family of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. All of the peripheral buildings of the Saheb Qaranie House, with the exception of the Ahmad Shahi Pavilion, were demolished, and the buildings and structures of the present-day complex were built to the north of the Saheb Qaranie House. In the Pahlavi period, the Ahmad Shahi Pavilion served as an exhibition area for the presents from world eaders to the Iranian monarchs. The Sa'dabad Complex is a complex built by the Qajar and Pahlavi monarchs, located in Shemiran, Greater Tehran, Iran.

The Grand Bazaar is an old historical market in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Located at the Arg Square in Southern Tehran, it is split into several corridors over 10 km in length, each specializing in different types of goods, and has several entrances, with the main being the entrance of Sabze Meydan. In addition to shops, the Grand Bazaar of Tehran has contained banks, mosques and guest houses.
