    QLUSTER ELEMENTE CD / LP (+CD) / Digital / November 2nd, 2018 “Elemente” - album number seven from the third incarnation of the legendary krautronic project Kluster/Cluster springs a surprise with a minor sensation: sequencer lines! Using an array of exclusively analogue instruments, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Onnen Bock and Armin Metz have recorded eight tracks which, at one and the same time, are intrinsically hypnotic and sublimely beautiful. In principle, “Elemente” was created in much the same fashion as earlier Qluster albums: the three musicians met up in Schönberg, a remote hamlet in northern Mecklenburg. The eight pieces were distilled from the original recordings of their lengthy improvised sessions, with additional elements added to only three of the tracks in the production process: a synthesizer melody for “Zeno”, a prepared piano for “Xymelan” and a beat for “Tatum”. First special feature on the new album: the “tools of the trade”. In their choice of equipment, Qluster reach back to their own history as Cluster, more than forty years ago, when legendary albums like “Zuckerzeit”, “Sowiesoso” and “Curiosum” were made. “Elemente” has been crafted exclusively with analogue instruments: a range of analogue synthesizers, rhythm machines, a Farfisa organ, a Fender Rhodes piano and various effects devices plus – second special feature and making its debut in the band’s narrative! – a 1970s sequencer playing an endless loop of manually recorded melodies, fed through effects and equalizers to achieve that typically hypnotic sequencer character. Listen out for them on “Perpetuum”, “Xymelan”, “Tatum” and “Lindow”. By way of contrast, “Weite” and “Infinitum” unfold in vast echo chambers, free of metrics.

    The Future is in the Flesh Article by Clinton Walker - Roadrunner, 1979 As the echoes of the punk rock explosion fade into eternity a number of post-punk musical movements have emerged. One of the prominent of these is the electronic rock movement which rather than trying to incorporate the synthesiser into a conventional rock format is trying to create its own musical format. In this special report, Clinton Walker traces the development of electronic rock from its beginnings with the likes of Eno, Kraftwerk and the Residents through to the present rash of synthesiser bands in the U.K., the U.S.A. and, yes folks, Australia. In fact, the little publicised Australian electronic music movement is one of the liveliest in the world. Could THIS be the future of rock'n'roll? I suppose Brian James really thought he’d hit the nail on the head when he formed the quasi-psychedelic outfit, Tanz Der Youth, after splitting The Damned. Clearly he had interpreted rock’n’roll’s development as moving in a circle and, accepting the punk wave as parallel to Beatlemania and the surrounding Pop Explosion of the early ‘60s, obviously the next step (after the Death of Punk) was going to be some kind of movement that equally paralleled the psychedelia that bloomed in the later 60s. This hypothesis James put into practice (via Tanz Der Youth). Apart from the fact that any rock’n'roll so calculated simply could not (artistically) succeed.

Presentazione Questo volume si propone di fornire una panoramica, la piu' aggiornata possibile, sui fenomeni musicali che esulano dalle correnti tradizionali del rock, del jazz e della classica, e che rappresentano in senso lato l'attuale "avanguardia". In tal senso l'avanguardia, piu' che un movimento monolitico e omogeneo, appare come una federazione piu' o meno aperta di tante scuole diverse e separate. Alcune costituiscono la cosiddetta "contemporanea" (capitoli 1-7), figlia dell'avanguardia classica; altre sono scaturite della sperimentazione dei complessi rock (capitoli 8-10); altre ancora appartengono al nuovo jazz, e non fanno altro che legittimare una volta per tutte il jazz nel novero della musica "intellettuale" (capitoli 11-13); la new age, infine, sfrutta le suggestioni delle scuole precedenti (capitoli 14-17). Piuttosto che un'introduzione generale ci sembra allora piu' opportuno fornire una presentazione capitolo per capitolo: 1. L'avanguardia popolare. Per avanguardia si intendeva un tempo soltanto l'avanguardia classica. A dimostrazione di come i tempi siano cambiati, questo libro e' in gran parte dedicato a musicisti che hanno le loro origini nel rock, nel jazz o nella new age. In questo primo capitolo ci proponiamo di fornire una panoramica storica sulla nascita dei movimenti musicali che hanno introdotto le novita' armoniche, acustiche, ideologiche su cui speculano tuttora gli sperimentatori moderni. Ci premeva anche trasmettere la sensazione che esista una qualche continuita' fra i lavori di Varese e Stockhausen (per citarne due particolarmente famosi) e i protagonisti di questo libro. 2. Minimalismo. La scuola minimalista degli anni Settanta era chiaramente delimitata.

La riedizione del testo è il primo libro pubblicato da 'Strange Vertigo', nuova iniziativa editoriale reggiana specializzata nel recupero di testi ormai irreperibili nel campo della saggistica musicale e cinematografica. Iliana VELESCU Ovidius University Constanta Faculty of Arts Abstract: Artistic exploration period of the early 20th century draws two new directions in art history called Dadaism and Futurism. Along with the painters and writers who begin to manifest in these artistic directions, is distinguished composers whose works are focused on producing electronic, electric and acoustic sounds. Music gets a strong minimalist and concrete experimental type, evolving in different genres including the ambient music. Keywords: ambient music, minimalism, experimental music Ambient music is a derivative genre of electronic music known as background music developed from traditional musical structures, and generally focuses on timbre sound and creating a specific sound field. The origins of this music are found in the early 20th century, shortly before and after the First World War. This period of exploration and rejection of what was classical and traditionally gave birth of two artistic currents called in art history, Dadaism and Futurism. Along with painters and writers manifested in these artistic directions were distinguished experimental musician such as Francesco Balilla Pratella, Kurt Schwitters and Erwin Schulhoff. This trend has had a notable influence in Erik Satie works which consider this music as „music of furniture” (Musique d'ameublement) and proper to create a suitable background during dinner rather than serving as the focus of attention1. The experimental trend has evolved at the same time with the „music that surrounds us” which start to delimitated the cosmic sounds, nature sounds, and sound objects - composers being attracted by sound exploring in microstructure and macrostructure level through the emergence and improvement of acoustic laboratories or electronic music studios as well as Iannis Xenakis, Pierre Boulez, Karl Stockausen.
