This programming is unconscious from the beginning until we discover our real feelings and understand how we have been manipulated to deny those feel- ings. This process of de-programming begins, hopefully, early in our lives, but some struggle all their lives to over- come the shackles that force them to be less than human. Our self-hatred and the denial of our oppression is the final stage of true oppression and leads to the issue of coming out to family, friends and society. "I am not oppressed" is the belief people hold that justifies their not com- ing out. If they haven't come out to any- one, then no one can oppress them. The truth is that they have already op- pressed themselves, so there is no need for others to do so. On the other hand, some may feel that to come out to support others in their awakening, acceptance, and health is worth the sacrifice of being able to pass in soci- ety and gain the privileges accorded the deception. Both of these are op- pressive attitudes. You "sacrifice" the "privilege" to deny your real feelings, to limit oneself to a role, to not express all the feelings a human is capable of ex- pressing, to deprive oneself of renewed energy in sex with the spontaneity that comes with another partner, and more. The true sacrifice is not coming out; it ~
