Created by Nottingham based carver Mark Manders, the sculpture was carved out of an old ash tree that was felled in 2014. Carving Children from the Bramble and Manor Academies attended a workshop where they heard about the natural history of the Green. After this session the children submitted suggestions for the design of the carving and Mark interpreted these to produce the finished work. The carving was commissioned by the Mansfield funding organisation dedicated to making lasting Woodhouse Millennium Green Trust and funded by a improvements to the natural environment and grant from the SUEZ Communities Trust; an ethical community life. To consider the Panel’s membership and any changes required to meet the balanced appointment objective as required by legislation. Information and Advice 2. The Police and Social Responsibility Act 2011 specifies that Police and Crime Panels must represent all parts of the police force area, be politically balanced and that members should have the skills, knowledge and experience necessary. 3. The Panel needs to review its membership at its Annual Meeting in June (or following elections which may have affected the Panel’s political balance). Elected members and proportional representation 4. The recent local elections have seen some changes in control and the overall numbers of seats held by the various political groups across the County (there has also been a reduction in seats due to boundary reviews completed for some of the District Councils). 5. Legislation stipulates that Police and Crime Panels must represent all parts of the relevant area, be politically balanced and have a membership that has the necessary skills, knowledge and experience. 6. Following the establishment of the Police and Crime Panel in 2012 the City Council agreed to offer one of its two additional co-opted places to a Conservative Member to help achieve overall political balance across the City and County. The Panel also agreed to offer the County Council Liberal Democrat Group a co-opted place on the Panel to ensure overall political balance. 7. Local authorities across Nottinghamshire, including Mansfield District Council, which are responsible for licensing businesses that offer tattoos, body piercing and permanent and semi- permanent make-up treatments, are working together on the Nottinghamshire Hygiene Accreditation Scheme. The aim of the scheme is to improve hygiene and safety standards associated with tattooing and cosmetic piercings, along with any permanent or semi-permanent treatments and procedures that use needles or micro-blades, and is part of a wider strategy by Mansfield District Council to make the district a safer place to live, work and visit and improve the wellbeing of its citizens. The five star rating system operates in a similar way to the national food hygiene scheme for restaurants and shops selling food products. The first scheme of its kind was launched in Wales in 2014 and has been a huge success. Businesses that offer the highest rates of hygiene and safety are awarded five stars signifying excellent standards. The lowest Pinders Leon Robson and Peter Herniman from Pinders Opticians rating is zero stars which indicates that urgent improvements are needed. The rating scheme has been developed using Chartered Institute of Environmental Health guidance on best practice for the industry, and from feedback provided during consultations with local businesses.
