Waste Processing ............................................................................................................................... 54 9, Nauki Av., Kharkov 61166, Ukraine, www.energostal.kharkov.ua 3 PREFACE This reference list contains a number of specific developments carried out within the last 10 years by SE “UkrRTC “Energostal” – an organization whose projects served as a basis for the construction of numerous metallurgical plants, pipe production plants, refractories and all ferroalloy plants in the CIS, and also for the establishment of many metallurgical plants in other countries. At present, SE “UkrRTC “Energostal” is one of the largest engineering complexes in Ukraine and CIS countries in the field of designing new plants, revamping and technical re-equipment of existing industrial enterprises and production facilities in the ore-mining and smelting section, machine-building and other industry branches; setting- up of new enterprises, creation of technologies and processes; industrial ecology, energy saving, cooling of metallurgical units, utilization of secondary resources, processing of metal products, as well as recovery of industrial and domestic waste. Many developments, widely in use beyond CIS boundaries, were first introduced to the world by SE “UkrRTC “Energostal” (continuous casting of steel, evaporative cooling of metallurgical units etc.). A distinctive feature of our Center lies in the complex execution of works on a “turn-key” basis – starting from scientific research, development of technologies, designing, engineering, manufacture of equipment up to its delivery, construction, erection and commissioning works, as well as warranty and after-sales service. In recent years, the Center has carried out complex reconstructions of metallurgical enterprises in Ukraine and Russia. SE “UkrRTC “Energostal” performs technical re-equipment and modernization of enterprises with replacement of their equipment by up-to-date, economically and environmentally efficient machines, with increasing its output capacity, improving the quality of products and reducing their prime cost. The Center is capable of solving, in a comprehensive manner, any environmental issue of industries: prevention, minimization and purification of emissions or discharges into the environment, neutralization and utilization of industrial wastes, delivery of equipment, engineering. 9, Nauki Av., Kharkov 61166, Ukraine, www.energostal.kharkov.ua 4 1. The analysis of the main man-made mineral formations of ore mining and smelting, fuel and energy com- plexes accumulation in Ukraine (coal and mining industry waste heaps, tailing dumps, ash dumps, smelter slag dumps) was conducted, their amount and occupied areas were estimated. According to the densest location of man-made for- mations, they are divided into 4 regions: the Prydniprovsk region, the Kryvyi Rih region, the Nikopol region, the Pav- lohrad region. According to information sources, the content of some valuable components in man-made formations has been established.

ROJANSKY KENNAN INSTITUTE Abstract: Corporate raiding in Ukraine is a widely discussed and reported problem that severely damages investment and economic development, prospects for European integration, and the welfare of ordinary people. Yet the phenomenon of raiding itself is only poorly understood, often either dismissed as inseparable from the country’s broader problem of endemic corruption, or imputed to powerful and shadowy raiders thought to be immune from defensive measures by private businesses.
