Romorantin-Lanthenay is the largest town in the Sologne region of the Loire, which stretches south from Orleans to the river and east of Blois. Wild boar and deer roam here, not to mention the ducks, geese, quails and pheasants, which far outnumber the small human population. Local restaurants tempt you with regional dishes based on game, wild mushrooms, apples and pumpkins. The town of Millancay holds an annual festival devoted entirely to the pumpkin.

There are two main walking routes running through the region and numerous smaller paths, all well marked and many accessible to bicycles.
