Germany is a logistics country because it is an exporting country. A primary driver of this success is the German automotive industry’s increase in exports. Last year 4.3 million cars were exported by German companies – another two per cent more than in the previous year. Three out of every four cars that come off the conveyor in are exported. This would not be possible without the excellent work done by logisticians; the seaports, in particular, are of key importance to our industry. Vehicle handling at the northern German ports is growing alongside growth in the automotive industry’s exports with cars handled in Bremerhaven reaching 2.3 million and cars handled in Emden reaching 1.3 million. These ports – to name but the two largest – set new records in 2014. Vehicle manufacturers and the logistics industry are collaborating more and more closely. When it Logistics Story comes to transporting the finished vehicles from the factory to their destination, logistics providers fulfil an extremely challenging task. Thousands of new vehicles have to be transported over long distances in the 16 shortest possible time – without becoming damaged, dirty or impaired in any way at all, and, of course, right on time. When manufacturers send their vehicles off on their journey to the dealer or customer, they must be able to trust that they are in good hands. The northern German ports are partners that prove their skills in this area day after day. As such: Germany’s success in exporting represents the joint success of industry and logisticians. I hope you enjoy reading!
