Parish Council News for Childswickham, Murcot and Mount Pleasant: May 2017 The Annual Parish Meeting.

The annual parish meeting was held on Thursday 11th May at 7pm in Childswickham Village Hall. Cllr Anthony Halling was re-elected as Chairman, and John Lowe as Vice-Chairman.

We thought you’d like to know about just some of the activities we have been involved in over the previous 12 months:

Social media: We’ve increased our social media presence to make our activities more accessible. This includes posting to the village Facebook page (thanks to Vikki for managing the page) and up- dates in the village magazine. Playing fields: The playing fields belong to the Parish and are being legally registered as such. Mrs Douch, a previous resident kindly donated £5,000 to pay for new equipment and a picnic bench in the field. Please make use of the facilities now the warmer weather is on its way. Phone Box: The phone box is now owned by the Parish, and we are exploring ways to use it that will benefit the whole community. Mr and Mrs Brazier and Mr Mike Machnicki have kindly volunteered to act as custodians. Speeding: Speeding through and around the village continues to cause concern. Cllr Wade has lead an initiative that is currently being considered by the WCC Highways department. 3 pairs of white gates will also be installed at pertinent entry points to the village to help with traffic calming. Points of View: All parish council members give up their time freely to help make our village a better place to live. We can do this more effectively if we have your support and interaction. So, if you have a concern, issue or comment about village life please get in touch. You can do this by writing to us and posting the letter in the Parish Council post box outside the village hall. Cotswold Hares Set to Run! Www.cirencestermarchharefestival.org.uk

Giant hares are about to leap across the Cotswolds and hare into over 20 of its towns and villages! From March 25th 80 of these 5 foot sculptures will be in place, nestling in hotel lobbies, tucked into shop doorways or proudly taking centre stage in town High Streets.

The hares have been decorated by amateur and professional artists, including schools and community groups. All lovingly designed and carefully crafted they are unique works of art. The 80 hares are all placed around the Cotswolds to form a trail for "harers" to follow. The Trail runs from March 25th to September 10th, giving everyone a good chance of finding them all. Festival Director, Florence Beetle- stone, who previously ran the Cirencester March Hare Festival for three years, ex- plains "we want to encourage people to explore all the delightful corners of the Cots- wolds and to use public transport, walk and cycle the route wherever possible. "

The Trail Festival has been designed to promote local businesses through tourism and to showcase the wonderful artistic talents of the many creative people living in the Cotswold area. " now that the Trail is set up towns and village have a fantastic opportunity to showcase their businesses, their heritage and culture with their own internal trails of small hare sculptures "leverets" and linked hare themed activities and events. The Trail is very much a catalyst to inspire towns to get involved and show off what is unique and wonderful about them." says Florence

"Harers" are asked to record their sitings of each hare by uploading selfies to social media. There will be prize events for people to enter.. "It will be a real challenge to find them all " explains Florence. To help them the Trail map has been divided into 4 regions with suggested links in each section. The Festival website contains a map of the Cotswolds showing the towns where the hares are located and the number in each town. Linked Town maps will show further details. These will be regularly up- dated in case any new or travelling hares leap on board over the six month Festival period. Printed maps will also be available.

At the end of the Trail in October the hares will be auctioned with any net profits going to National Star and to local historical projects such as museums.

There will be an Official Cotswold Trail Launch on 22nd March at Woodstock - Oxfordshire Museum at 4pm with the proceedings opened by Joey the life-size pup- pet from War Horse and the unveiling of 4 Woodstock hares. The Public Trail starts on 25th March.
