Disneyland Paris Review by Joan Finder
Disneyland Paris Review By Joan Finder It’s a Magical Morning and I am walking down Main Street USA! Yes, there is City Hall and the Emporium, but why does the hat shop say Chapeaux? Oh well, straight ahead, there it is…. The castle! But somehow it seems a brighter pink and a bit taller. And now the counter service cast member is handing me…. a croque monsieur and café au lait? This IS Disneyland, isn’t it? Yes, it must be—because there he is: Mickey Mouse himself with his wide grin, saying … “Bon Jour”?!? Is this a dream? No, it’s a dream-come-true! I am an American in Paris—Disneyland Paris! I never thought it was possible that a park could be even more beautiful than Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, or Walt’s original Disneyland CA, but Disneyland Paris achieves it. The details and the colors are just breathtaking, especially the pinks and blues reminiscent of the Impressionist Art for which Paris is known. Walking up MainStreet USA, which feels comfortingly familiar and yet teasingly strange at the same time, the castle doesn't appear much different than the Walt Disney World castle, until you walk around to the side and see the huge hill, boxed trees, waterfalls and lawns leading up to it. Plus, it even has a sleeping dragon in the cave below who wakes and breathes smoke! And if you go up the stairs, you can read the story of La Belle Au Bois Dormant , in French, of course, or just follow the tale of the Sleeping Beauty through a series of shining stained glass windows and elegant tapestries. -

Euro Disney ICT Tasks
Euro Disney ICT Tasks Research and produce (in an ICT format) short articles on three of the following aspects of EuroDisney and Paris. This must have an IT slant. E.g. Your reports should include digital photographs where possible. 1. Park rides which need safety/security features and how IT assists this. (You need to include; The Rock and Roller Coaster, The Car driving Stunt Show, the Backlot Express, Armageddon, The Studio Tram Tour, Big Thunder Mountain, Phantom Manor, Indiana Jones, any of the rides from Fantasyland, (consider that these will be for small children) Star Tours, Space Mountain, (including any others from Discoveryland) 2. How do you think IT has been used effectively in „Honey I shrunk the audience‟? 3. The Guest experience. Document the role of IT from the moment guests arrive. Track/log expenditure of guests in the Hotel and Parks. 3. Eating out and Entertainment. 4. The major tourist sites of Paris. Take note of the application of the following aspects of IT at EuroDisney. A WebPage. (How this would assist visitors and employers/employees?) Where can you see evidence of the following IT applications in and around the Theme Park? a. Systems which use SMPTE control. This is a time code used to synchronize various pieces of equipment. The time code signal is formatted to provide a system-wide clock that is referenced by all control systems. Systems including lighting, audio, special effects and air-launched pyrotechnics are coordinated through SMPTE in a fireworks display. b. Imagineering The Imagineering team includes show designers, artists, writers, project managers, engineers, architects, filmmakers, audio and visual specialists, animators, manufacturing groups, computer programmers, land planners, ride system designers, finance experts and researchers. -

Bibliography Pp. 2 Introduction For years now Disneyland Paris has been the number one tourist destination in Europe. This Walt Disney company amusement park was opened in 1992 and has become increasingly popular ever since. It was the 4th Disney park that was built in accordance with the model of the original Disneyland California park which was designed by Walt Disney himself and opened in 1955. These parks are not just popular for their rides but also for their themed snacks, parades, shows and merchandise. Going to these parks is unlike going to a regular theme park. For one, these parks are called resorts, and they all have multiple themed hotels that are part of the resorts, by which designers ensure that people can enter a sort of ‘Disney Bubble’ and not having to leave it for the entirety of their visit. These resorts also tend to consist of multiple smaller parks. -

Other popular fi ctional genres, which similarly deal in death and violence, such as the detective novel or spy fi ction, are not there, but Gothic superstition and horror is very much present. Spy fi ction has political ramifi cations, which the theme park is anxious to avoid, while the detective novel is a form that is largely predicated on an urban environment. The Gothic genre relies on an isolated and unpredictable environment; the pleasures of the theme park include the frisson of an unfamiliar locale and the anticipation of the unexpected; the themes of the horror genre belong to the fairground. The images and stories of the Gothic are always present in the pleasure ground in some form; a ghost train or haunted house is a necessary attraction in the smallest fairground. The theme park frequently has an entire section devoted to Gothic themes. -
