The first artistic director of this HUMMEL 25-man orchestra was the composer Ruben Liljefors. It has grown to 52 full-time members during the past ninety www.artaria.com or so years. THE PETTMAN NATIONAL JUNIOR ACADEMY of Music 2015 / 1 REPORT REPORT 2015 1 THE PETTMAN NATIONAL Our Students JUNIOR ACADEMY The PNJA currently has a total of 46 students with 34 of those being at the Academy on a full-scholarship and the remaining 12 on half-scholarships. Auditions for the recent Pettman National Junior Academy of Music Scholarships were held at the end of 2014, and applications reflected a large number of eager musicians, who were ready to pave their way towards a career in music. These auditions revealed an increased interest in the PNJA, particularly in New Zealand’s largest city, with two thirds of the scholarships being awarded to students from Auckland and the remaining third located in Christchurch. In total, thirteen new students aged between 11 and 25 were accepted into the Academy for 2015, including ten students from Auckland, two from Hamilton and one from Tauranga. Vertici romantici per il clarinetto di Ashkenazy Articolo di: Piero Barbareschi [1] Lo splendido doppio CD Paladino Music distribuito da Ducale e registrato dal vivo in occasione del Klassik Musikfest Muhlvierte 2007 e 2008, regala all'ascoltatore alcune fra le più belle pagine scritte per clarinetto. Dimitri Ashkenazy, insieme all'Acies Quartet, al soprano Ursula Langmayr, ai pianisti Christopher Hinterhuber e Roland Kruger, alla viola di Manuel Hofer ed al cello di Martin Rummel, esegue musiche di Brahms, Schubert, Zemlisky, Mozart. Il clarinetto è uno strumento senza dubbio affascinante. Il suono inconfondibile, unico per timbro ed espressività, è ideale per inserirsi nel linguaggio musicale romantico. Il suono si propone all'ascoltatore sempre con discrezione, senza mai raggiungere eccessi petulanti e fastidiosi. Dalla geniale intuizione in anticipo sui tempi di Mozart con il suo concerto K622, la presenza del clarinetto, come solista o concertato, connota in maniera inconfondibile la musica romantica. A patto che sia ben suonato... Come un bambino in un negozio di giocattoli o in una pasticceria, non si da che parte cominciare per la bellezza dei brani proposti. Seguendo l'ordine dei due CD, il primo capolavoro che ci viene incontro è lo straordinario lied “ Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” D695, l’ultimo lied composto da Schubert , dell’ottobre del 1828, pochi giorni prima la precoce fine del compositore, il successivo 19 novembre. In questo caso la maestria insuperata di Schubert di utilizzare la forma del lied, voce e pianoforte, per esprimere pura poesia, è integrata dalla presenza del clarinetto di Ashkenazy che con quella discrezione e grazia alla quale accennavamo sopra si inserisce perfettamente nel dialogo musicale fra la voce dell'ottima Ursula Langmayr ed il piano di Roland Kruger. -

CHRISTOPHER HINTERHUBER Piano “One of the best and most fascinating piano recordings of the year“, wrote the German magazine Fono Forum about his recording of Sonatas and Rondos by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, followed by an „Editor‘s Choice” by the renowned English Gramophone Magazine for the recording of works for piano and orchestra by Hummel. Another recording which has brought him international attention was the recording of all Piano Concertos by Ferdinand Ries with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and other orchestras. Born in Austria, Christopher Hinterhuber studied with Alex Papenberg, Rudolf Kehrer, Lazar Berman, Avo Kouyoumdjian and Heinz Medjimorec at the University for Music and performing Arts in Vienna and the Accademia „Incontri col Maestro“ in Imola, Italy acquiring additional artistic input from such artists as Oleg Maisenberg and Vladimir Ashkenazy. He has won numerous top prizes and honors at the international piano competitions in Leipzig (Bach), Saarbrücken (Bach), Pretoria (Unisa), Zurich (Geza Anda) and Vienna (Beethoven) among others. As “Rising Star” 2002/03, he performed with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja in the international series at the Carnegie Hall, New York and in all important musical centers in Europe.
