In order for a priest to be ordained a bishop there must be a decree by the Holy Father authorizing the ordination, and there must be at least three bishops present at the ordination. At Bishop Gordon’s ordination there were several bishops participating. The Bishop of Las Vegas, George Leo Thomas was the principal consecrator. Together with him was His Eminence, Cardinal Roger Mahony, the Archbishop Emeritus of Los Angeles; His Excellency Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, the official representative of the Holy Father; His Excellency Jose Gomez, the Archbishop of Los Angeles; His Excellency Salvatore J. Cordileone, the Archbishop of San Francisco; His Excellency Daniel Walsh, the first bishop emeritus of Las Vegas; His Excellency Bishop Joseph Pepe, the second Bishop Emeritus of Las Vegas, as well as several other concelebrating Archbishops and Bishops. In addition, there were a great number of priests (including Fr. Julian and myself) and deacons of the Diocese of Las Vegas, visiting priests as well as men and women Religious. The Shrine was filled to capacity with people and various organizations from all over the diocese witnessing this historic and sacred event. Bishop Gordon, who is the Vicar General of the Diocese of Las Vegas, is now the first auxiliary bishop of the Diocese. We extend our best wishes and congratulations to Bishop Gordon and assure him of our continued prayers as he begins his new role as a bishop of the Roman Catholic Church and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Las Vegas. 2 — O L L V C C J 25, 2021 MASS INTENTIONS TODAY’S READINGS Saturday, July 24 - Saint Sharbel Makhlüf First Reading — Elisha feeds a hundred people with 4:00pm: †Margaret J.
