A little over a week ago on Friday, July 16, 2021, in the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer here in Las Vegas, Monsignor Gregory William Gordon was ordained a of the Roman Catholic Church. In order for a priest to be ordained a bishop there must be a decree by the Holy Father authorizing the ordination, and there must be at least three present at the ordination.

At Bishop Gordon’s ordination there were several bishops participating. The Bishop of Las Vegas, George Leo Thomas was the principal . Together with him was His Eminence, Cardinal Roger Mahony, the Archbishop Emeritus of Los Angeles; His Excellency Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, the official representative of the Holy Father; His Excellency Jose Gomez, the Archbishop of Los Angeles; His Excellency Salvatore J. Cordileone, the Archbishop of San Francisco; His Excellency Daniel Walsh, the first bishop emeritus of Las Vegas; His Excellency Bishop Joseph Pepe, the second Bishop Emeritus of Las Vegas, as well as several other concelebrating Archbishops and Bishops. In addition, there were a great number of priests (including Fr. Julian and myself) and deacons of the Diocese of Las Vegas, visiting priests as well as men and women Religious.

The Shrine was filled to capacity with people and various organizations from all over the diocese witnessing this historic and sacred event.

Bishop Gordon, who is the Vicar General of the Diocese of Las Vegas, is now the first auxiliary bishop of the Diocese.

We extend our best wishes and congratulations to Bishop Gordon and assure him of our continued prayers as he begins his new role as a bishop of the Roman Catholic Church and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Las Vegas.

SR. PATRICIA McCORMACK, IHM, EdD Sister Patricia M. McCormack, IHM, Ed.D. is an international formation-education consultant. Her practical experience in education includes both classroom and administration experience at the elementary, secondary, and college levels. Her of public speaking blends Catholic spirituality, psychology, and wisdom gathered from parents, teachers and students.

Currently, Dr. McCormack is director of the IHM Office of Formative Support for Parents and Teachers, Immaculata, PA. She is the author of scores of articles and several books. Her latest publications include a trilogy of Parking Lot Parent books and the video series, “Parent Chat with Sister Pat” (Twenty-third Publications).

FR. BOB STOECKIG Father Bob Stoeckig was born in southwestern North Dakota and was raised there and in eastern Montana. He studied music at Providence University and received a Master of Arts in music with a major in voice performance and a minor in organ. After graduation he worked on his certification in Music Therapy at Eastern Montana University and worked in a residential treatment facility for adolescents. He then worked in a parish in Lewistown, Montana where he taught in the grade school and high school and served as Director of Religious Education and Liturgy in the parish.

After the parochial school closed, he worked as Director of Operations for Pan American Industries and moved to the bay area when that business was sold to Pentron Products. At Pentron, he worked in marketing for their consumer products division, and later moved to Las Vegas where he became a vice President in a manufacturing and marketing business called JS Products.

In 1989, he was accepted as a seminarian for the Diocese of Reno-Las Vegas and attended St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, CA. He was ordained a priest in 1994 and stayed in Las Vegas when the diocese split in 1995 and the Diocese of Las Vegas was established.

Since ordination, Father Bob has served at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Christ the King, The shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer, St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, and St. Andrew’s in Boulder City before being named Rector of . He formerly served as Vicar General and has served in Various diocesan leadership positions.
