    January 15, 2012 Cubs.com Wrigley's right-field bleachers getting patio By: Carrie Muskat CHICAGO -- The Cubs announced the addition of a patio in the right-field bleacher section at Wrigley Field, which will be ready for the 2012 season and create a rooftop-like atmosphere. The Budweiser Patio will include a 75-foot LED sign installed above the right-field wall with the capability to display game information, such as pitch count, photos of players and statistics. It will not have video replay because of the size. The new right-field configuration can handle a group of 150 people, or three groups of 50 each, or may be sold on an individual basis. Cubs team president Crane Kenney said the pricing was still to be determined. "What we're finding both for our suites as well as other parts of the ballpark is that people want to be able to circulate -- you see it on the rooftops," Kenney said Saturday after a business management session at the 27th annual Cubs Convention, where the announcement was made. "[It will be] a place where you can bring clients, move around in the space and not just be fixed," Kenney said. "If I'm in seat [No. 1] and my clients are in seats two through eight, I don't get to talk to the person in seat [No. 8]. It's a chance to circulate." Each section of 50 tickets will include both seated and standing-room-only tickets, and an all-inclusive food and beverage package. The Wrigley Field bleachers underwent a major renovation after the 2005 season when they were expanded and a restaurant was added in the batter's eye.

    Academic Forum 30 2012-13 Progressive Team Home Run Leaders of the Washington Nationals, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees Fred Worth, Ph.D. Professor of Mathematics Abstract - In this paper, we will look at which players have been the career home run leaders for the Washington Nationals, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees since the beginning of the organizations. Introduction Seven years ago, I published the progressive team home run leaders for the New York Mets and Chicago White Sox. I did similar research on additional teams and decided to publish four of those this year. I find this topic interesting for a variety of reasons. First, I simply enjoy baseball history. Of the four major sports (baseball, football, basketball and cricket), none has had its history so consistently studied, analyzed and mythologized as baseball. Secondly, I find it amusing to come across names of players that are either a vague memory or players I had never heard of before. The Nationals The Montreal Expos, along with the San Diego Padres, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Pilots debuted in 1969, the year that the major leagues introduced division play. The Pilots lasted a single year before becoming the Milwaukee Brewers. The Royals had a good deal of success, but then George Brett retired. Not much has gone well at Kauffman Stadium since. The Padres have been little noticed except for their horrid brown and mustard uniforms. They make up for it a little with their military tribute camouflage uniforms but otherwise carry on with little notice from anyone outside southern California.

I switched to APBA in the late ‘70’s because they started releasing some complete old season sets and the idea of playing with those really caught my fancy. Between then and the mid-nineties, I collected a lot of card sets.

    Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins cuts loose for the Chicago Baseball Museum. By Paul Ladewski In the 1971 season, you started 39 games, pitched 325 innings, won 24 games and hit six home runs. Fast forward 37 years. What does it take for the Cubs to sign you now? Now? Probably $14 million, $15 million. Yeah, I think so. I was 28 years old at the time, so the team would probably want to lock me up for five or six years. I'd take five years for $75 million. That wouldn't be bad. (Laughs.) Or I'd take Carlos Zambrano's contract -- $92 million for six years. What was your salary that season? I made $125,000. It was good money then. It was one of the first big contracts that the Cubs gave to a pitcher. My family really enjoyed it. I bought a ranch in Ontario, Canada, at the time, and me and my father worked on it. We were pretty happy with that. What memorabilia did you save from that season? I have a couple bats at home. I also have some jerseys, but I'm not sure if they're from the actual 1971 season because we didn't own the uniforms back then. The ballclubs did. At the end of the season, we handed them back in and got new ones before the next season. Now that you've have time reflect on your Cubs career, what do you remember most about it? It was a lot of fun. I look back at accomplishments, but mostly, we had a lot of fun with the Cubs in my years there.
