YACHT BRIEFING Upon arrival, the lead person in your party will receive a yacht briefing. The technical check in and yacht briefing will take 40-60 minutes, depending on yacht size and crew experience. The team will give a detailed walk-through of your yacht’s technical equipment, information about safe and accurate navigation, including the yacht’s navigational instruments, as well as mooring, anchorage and itinerary help. The safety briefing introduces the safety equipment and your yacht’s general inventory. STOP OVERS You may spend the first night of your check-in date at a slip or on a mooring (please mention preference in advance of boarding) at no additional charge. Subsequent nights at the marina or mooring are an additional cost. DISEMBARKATION TIME Disembarkation time will be 10am. Please make sure your last night is within reasonable motoring miles of our base so you are not late to disembark. The team will inspect your yacht’s equipment and a general visual check of its interior and exterior. A diver will check its hull, keel, rudder(s) propeller(s) and /or bow thruster. ACCESS BY PLANE Fly into Cancun International Airport (CUN). There are direct flights from Florida and Miami or you can fly via Mexico City. TRANSFERS FROM THE AIRPORT TO OUR BASE If you need an organized transfer from the airport, please contact our base manager. Major transfer companies operate their offices at the airport, please refer to the airport website for the list, working hours and contacts. Transfers can be arranged by us or you can find taxis in front of the airport buildings. There are a number of transfer companies from the airport to Puerto Juarez, where you can take the Ultramar ferry to Isla Mujeres. It takes about an hour and 10 minutes to reach our base from the airport (40 minutes by transfer or taxi to the mainland port and 30 minutes by ferry to the island). If you are looking to find a prime cruising ground offering beautiful beaches and the chance to see whale and lemon sharks, swim with turtles and dine on dishes inspired by Mayan culture then the Maya Riviera, Mexico, is an unforgettable destination. Our base is on Isla Mujeres, just six miles off Cancun. Just 8km long and 1.3km at its widest point, this island offers clear turquoise water and plenty of wildlife to see. Nearby, to the north, Holbrox offers chances to find remote and uncrowded anchorages and is popular with nature fans. If you cruise at sunset, you’ll see the flamingos settling in at dusk. In the south you can take a small boat to see the ruins at Tulum or see the cenotes. TOP THINGS TO DO IN ISLA MUJERES: 1. Visit the Mayan city of Chichen Itza When planning your trip, you might want to add a day or two for exploring ashore. Don’t miss the UNESCO archeological site of Chichen Itza, one of the largest Mayan cities with its Kukulkan Pyramid, monoliths and temples. It’s one of the top things to do in Cancun and listed as one of the seven wonders of the modern world. 2. Tour Tulum’s ancient ruins If you can’t make it to Chichen Itza, explore the walled city ruins at Tulum which was once a coastal fortress. It was once home to 1,600 citizens and traded semi-precious stones, textiles and food. When visiting you can swim at the site’s attractive beach. 3. Snorkel the underwater sculpture park Be sure to visit MUSA at Isla Mujeres while sailing Cancun, founded by artist Jaime González Cano and sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor. You can snorkel nearly 500 sculptures on the seabed, a fascinating artificial reef for the local marine life. 4. Learn more about Mayan culture Visit Maya Museum of Cancun and see one of the most extensive archaeological collections of Mayan culture while on your yacht charter in Cancun. 5. Spot whale sharks at Isla Mujeres If you sail at the right time, you will be able to see whale sharks between mid-May to September where they gather around Isla Mujeres to feed on plankton. SAILING CONDITIONS SAILING AREA Sail the north and south routes from Isla Mujeres – the base team will explain any local conditions during your chart briefing. Relax on soft white sand beaches of the Maya Riviera, such as Las Perlas, Tulum, and Mamitas Beach in Playa del Carmen, dive the Mesoamerican Reef at Playa del Carmen, or try surfing at Playa Chac Mool at Cozumel. Snorkel fans will enjoy the underwater sculpture museum with nearly 500 sculptures at Salon Manchones, Isla Mujeres, and more than 30 at Punta Nizuc, Cancun. While ashore, you’ll find some of the finest examples of archaeological riches. Trace the footsteps of ancient civilizations in the Mayan city of Chichen Itza, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, or see the coastal ruins at Tulum. While on your yacht charter, you can broaden your taste buds with the fragrant, hot flavors of Yucatan cuisine with its Mayan origins, using achiote seeds, habanero chillies and sour oranges. Try the region’s famous dish of cochinita pibil, a marinated pig slow-cooked in a pit. WEATHER The best time of year to visit Cancun is December through April and January to March are the peak months. If you want to see the whale sharks, make sure you visit between May and September. This is the low season with still mostly good weather and you can miss the crowds.
