KSCSTE-JNTBGRI, Sub-Center, Kuzhur Main objectives Establishment of a plant tissue culture laboratory and propagation of Mat weaving using pandanus leaves natural fibre yielding plants with special emphasis on different varieties of screw pine plants and other economically important agri- horti crops for the development of Green industry at Kodungallur Vision Ensuring sufficient raw materials for srew-pine based cottage industry and quality planting materials of agri-horti species for the development of green industry in Kerala. A promising thornless screwpine variety for screw-pine craft, under micropropagation in the center and Mat weaved using their leaves Inception The setting up of the present R&D Sub Centre at Kuzhur has a sequential growth starting from 2010 with the involvement of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC). As part of the Constituency Development program of the Government of Kerala in 2010, KSIDC conducted a survey in Kodungallur constituency and gave its report ascertaining that the cause of declining screw pine cottage industry was primarily due to dearth of raw Laboratory complex of Class10,000 materials. Further scrutiny recognized the importance of scientific input to address the issues of screw pine availability and JNTBGRI was entrusted to Mission develop the tissue culture technology for mass production of screw pine plants • Establishment of a Plant Tissue culture Laboratory of which eventually led to the establishment of the present R&D center. Dr. K. International standard for the mass multiplication of different Satheeshkumar, former Head, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Division, varieties of screw pine plants and other economically important JNTBGRI was assigned the task of developing the technology and setting up of agri-horti crops. the center. Construction of the first phase of the building with an area of 10,000 sq. ft. was completed and inauguration of the laboratory was carried out on 12th January 2019 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala. Achievements • A tissue culture laboratory of class 10,000 was established and Strength equipped with basic facilities for micropropagation. Infrastructure • Micropropagation protocol for mass production of Pandanus Presently the institute is equipped with a fully fledged 10000 sq. feet facicularis was standardized and the protocol was evaluated in tissue culture laboratory. Design: Shinelal Published by Kerala State Biodiversity Board, Thiruvananthapuram 2 FOREWORD Kerala is the only state in India where Biodiversity Management Committees (BMC) has been constituted in all Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporation way back in 2012. The BMCs of Kerala has also been declared as Environmental watch groups by the Government of Kerala vide GO No 04/13/Envt dated 13.05.2013. In Kerala after the devastating natural disasters of August 2018 Post Disaster Needs Assessment ( PDNA) has been conducted officially by international organizations. The present report of Rapid Impact Assessment of flood/ landslides on Biodiversity focus on community perspectives of the affect on Biodiversity and Ecosystems. It is for the first time in India that such an assessment of impact of natural disasters on Biodiversity was conducted at LSG level and it is a collaborative effort of BMC and Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB). More importantly each of the 187 BMCs who were involved had also outlined the major causes for such an impact as perceived by them and suggested strategies for biodiversity conservation at local level. Being a study conducted by local community all efforts has been made to incorporate practical approaches for prioritizing areas for biodiversity conservation which can be implemented at local level.

  • Emergency Action Plan for SHOLAYAR MAIN/FLANKING/SADDLE DAMS MAY 2020
Emergency Action Plan for SHOLAYAR MAIN/FLANKING/SADDLE DAMS MAY 2020 Emergency Action Plan (Tier- I) Sholayar Main, Flanking & Saddle Dams Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd. DOC No. KSEBL_EAP_20_SHOLAYAR _R1 May 2020 i Emergency Action Plan for SHOLAYAR MAIN/FLANKING/SADDLE DAMS MAY 2020 SHOLAYAR MAIN DAM (KL29HH0016) SHOLAYAR FLANKING DAM (KL29MH0015) & SHOLAYAR SADDLE DAM (KL29MH0017) DISCLAIMER This is a Tier I EAP document prepared based on the Dam Break Analysis carried out using digital elevation model (DEM) derived from Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) global digital surface model (DSM) dataset with a horizontal resolution of approximately 30meters (1 arc-sec). Every effort has been taken to estimate the severity of flooding and inundation areas likely to be affected due to the failure of Sholayar Main/Flanking/Saddle Dams. These estimates are based on available primary and secondary data. Every effort has been made to foresee varied emergency possibilities and develop appropriate notification procedures for timely rescue and relief operations. However, implementation of the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) involves many agencies, who are required to work in a coordinated manner to reduce the consequences of the emergency triggered by the dam site condition. Effectiveness of the rescue and relief operations depend on many factors including the adequacy and accuracy of the estimation of the severity of flooding, coordinated efforts of all the agencies involved in rescue and relief efforts and availability of facilities like power, telephones, road communications, etc. EAP Developer may therefore, not be held responsible for the efficacy of the EAP. For any information, please contact: Supriya.S Chief Engineer (Civil – Dam Safety & DRIP) Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd.
