Measurements were carried out using a NaI based Gamma ray spectrometer, alpha counting system and beta counting system. Results of the gamma ray spectrometric measurements carried out for natural radioactivity 226 232 40 levels due to Ra. Th and K in soil, drinking water, vegetable and fish specimen collected from the Thengaipattinam coast of Kanyakumari district. These studies were carried out in the Health Physics unit of BARC located in the campus of Indian Rare Earths Limited, Manavalakurichy in Tamilnadu. Alpha activity was found to be higher in soil with 27546 Bq/Kg than in water 0.0065 Bq/l and 91.02 Bq/Kg, 115.72 Bq/Kg in vegetable and fish. The beta activity estimated was 94718.23 Bq/Kg, 0.032Bq/l,220Bq/Kg and 302.15Bq/Kg in soil water ,vegetable and fish respectively. Radioactive nuclides estimation reveals that 228Ac concentration was higher in soil 2893Bq/Kg and potassium activity was rich in fish .232Th activity was also high in soil. The results of these studies are presented and discussed in this paper in detail. Gamma ray spectrometric measurements carried out for the natural radioactivity levels due to 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in beach sand samples around the coast of Kanyakumari district were analyzed. For assessing the environmental radiological impact to public it is essential to evaluate the activity levels of these radionuclides. The absorbed dose rate due to natural radionuclides was also calculated and the results are reported in this paper. The total annual effective dose of the study area founds to vary between 1.86 mSv to 2.67 mSv. This study provides a baseline data of radioactivity background levels in some Naturally High Background Radiation Areas along the coastal regions of Kanyakumari district and will be useful to assess any changes in the radioactive background levels. Keywords: Natural radioactivity, radionuclides, dose 1. Introduction in these areas contains heavy minerals like ilmenite, rutile, 232 238 zircon, monazite and sillimanite. Th and U are reported Terrestrial sources contribute about 84% of the total from these regions, caused mainly due to the monazite radiation from natural sources to which an individual is bearing black sands.

PUSHPA RAJ2 1Research Scholar & 2Assistant Professor (Research Supervisor) Department of History, Scott Christian College (Autonomous), Nagercoil, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Abishekapatti, Tirunelveli – 627 012, Tamil Nadu, India. Abstract: Rev. I.H. Hacker was one of the pioneer missionaries sent by the London Missionary Society to do missionary works in Travancore. As a missionary he arrived at Neyyoor on 9th January 1878. His services were remarkable in the history of South Travancore Christian mission. The work of I.H. Hacker was a milestone in the churches of South Travancore. A remarkable movement among the Christian people, called the “Six years’ Movement”, took place about this time. How it began cannot well be traced, but its central place in Travancore was a small village near Mavelikarai, and the leading spirit of the movement was one Justus Joseph. He proclaimed in 1875 that he was commissioned to declare that the second coming of Christ was to take place in six years’ time, in October 1881. During the last three years of his supposed prophecy the movement spread like wildfire, and many of the established churches were disorganised. Some people sold their little bits of property, threw their money into a common fund and devoted themselves heart and soul to the proclamation of what they believed to be the truth of God. When 1881 ended the movement collapsed and most of the people returned to their respective missions.

There is no doubt that the missionaries were the pioneers to start better education, better health care to all the people without any kind of discrimination. The medical missions entered the Indian subcontinent during the late 18th century. The earliest among them was the London Missionary Society which started work in 18th century in the Travancore State. To help the ignorant men and women out of the vortex of sickness and ailment the London Missionary Society started its medical service. In the field of medical care, LMS did a considerable amount of work in Kerala after 1838. The hospitals of Christian Missionaries brought all castes together, thus providing a new concept about man in a traditional society like that of Kerala. The Protestant women Missionaries contributed a lot for the medical and health care of the people in the Mission stations. They provided medical help to all patients whether rich or poor, high or low caste.

Tamilnadu 1 2 About US We are "CHLIRO INDIA", (Cultural Historical Linguistic Indigenous Research Organization of India), a Registered Body. We consist of Experts in Indian Culture, History and Indigenous Languages. We do Research in the Grass Root level to bring out true history of India. We believe in Unification rather than Divisions. We find about 300 branches of Nadars in India known in different linguistic names. We do not claim the research is complete, it still continues. However, we take responsibility to substantiate our facts and arguments from authentic sources. Those who follow the 'Conventional' foreign thought process of historical approach might find it difficult to accept some of these facts. This is based on a 'Critical History' of archaeological, Cultural, Historical and Genetic analysis of People and History, which are buried under the sands of time due to various reasons. If questioned, we can explain to the viewers. We welcome like-minded tribes and branches to transact suggestions for improvement. So far, Seven 'National Conferences' have been initiated with our sister tribes like Idigas, Bhunts, Kalar, Jaiswals, Gouds, Alvars, Ezhavas, Chouhans, Ahlvalia, Bhoumick, Bhandare, Villavas, Madhvas, etc., at Bopal, Bangalore, Trivandrum, Chennai, Nagarcoil, Bombay, and at Madurai. Still, more yet to be done. We have also conducted 'Critical' discussions among the experts about facts displayed here. We need constructive participation from you. www.eranielpalace.com 3 Mysteries of History Eraniel Palace Dr.M.Immanuel (Director: Historical Research and Publications Trust) As many of us may think, it is not any easy walk to narrate the history of Travancore/ Venadu / Kerala or even that of India today.
