The report sets out a summary of performance at area committee level with a broader summary of city level performance, and builds on previous reports with additional local context and tracking of local indicators. The majority of education results are presented in this report, including tables of headline results for all Leeds schools and links to additional information. Apologies for Absence Apologies for absence were received from: Councillors: M Hamilton, G Harper, J Walker and L Yeadon. 57 Open Forum Draft minutes to be approved at the meeting to be held on Thursday, 7th March, 2013 Page 1 (i) BMX Trial and Dirt Jump Track – Members heard representations from“Dig2ride”, a Charitable company set up to promote BMX cycling in the Kirkstall area. The Group wish to use the former municipal waste tip at Dobbie Row, Kirkstall as a BMX trial and dirt jump track for the local community. It was reported that the Group had encountered difficulties in obtaining insurance and were now seeking the assistance of the Area Committee in securing indemnity insurance for the site. RESOLVED - (a) To support “Dig2ride” in obtaining the necessary indemnity insurance for the site (b) That the issue be referred to the City Council’s Insurance Manager with a view to assisting in the insurance arrangements (Councillor Illingworth declared an interest in this item as a Trustee of the Company “Dig2ride”) (ii) Hyde Park Unity Day – Members heard representations from the organisers of the Hyde Park Unity day. This annual event brings together local residents and community groups to participate in a variety of activities throughout the day. Event organisers were now seeking the support of the Area Committee to extend the current hours of operation from 7.00pm until 9.00pm which other similar events currently had. RESOLVED – (a) To support an extension of the hours of operation for the Hyde Park Unity Day from 7.00pm until 9.00pm. (b) That the views of the Area Committee be made known to West Yorkshire Police and the Parks and Countryside Service. (iii) Former Ash Grove Social Club – Sue Buckle (SHCA) thanked Members for their support in objecting to a recent planning application to convert the former Ash Grove Social Club into four residential flats with car parking. Ash Grove residents were grateful for Members involvement with this application. (iv) Student Safety on Woodhouse Moor – Members heard representations from Leeds Met Student’s Union who were concerned about the safety of students when crossing Woodhouse Moor and Beckett’s Park at night. There were no paths with adequate lighting across the parks and keeping to the paths around the parks extended the walking distance.

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: The National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) is an independent body that has responsibility for advising UK government departments and others on the protection of people from ionising and non-ionising radiation (NIR) hazards. NRPB undertakes research into NIR sources and effects, and provides a comprehensive measurement and advisory service. In addition, NRPB receives many thousands of enquiries each year from individuals who are concerned about their exposure to radio waves, particularly those emitted by mobile phone base stations at around 900 and 1800 MHz. This paper describes the response to one such enquiry from a Member of Parliament (MP) representing local community groups and residents, who were concerned about emissions from three large telecommunications installations close to their homes and local schools. A survey of the radio wave exposure in the area around the three installations was carried out, measuring the total exposures due to all radio signals from 30 MHz to 18 GHz, using a variety of antennas connected to a spectrum analyser. The measurement range was chosen to include all the emissions from the local transmitters, including mobile phone base stations, emergency services' radiocommunications, pagers and microwave dishes. Emissions from transmitters further away, such as broadcast television and radio signals, were also detected. The results are compared against the guidelines published by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

  • Tackling the Holiday Hunger, Holiday Inactivity and Holiday Isolation Faced by Some of the Poorest Children in Leeds, and Often Their Families, Too
    About Healthy Holidays Healthy Holidays is now in its third year – tackling the holiday hunger, holiday inactivity and holiday isolation faced by some of the poorest children in Leeds, and often their families, too. Leeds Community Foundation delivers this programme with support from Leeds City Council, and from local food partners FareShare Yorkshire and Rethink Food. In 2019, Leeds Healthy Holidays reached 5,441 young people and 903 parents/carers through 77 community-based partners delivering a range of fun and engaging activities, all of which included at least one nutritious meal. Healthy Holidays 2020 – Covid Response In the face of Covid-19 crisis, Leeds Community Foundation (LCF) and Leeds City Council have been actively working with food provision charities and local community organisations on an Emergency Food Provision Process to deliver much-needed food and support to these vulnerable children, their families and other vulnerable adults. As an immediate response to lockdown, LCF funded 31 community organisations to provide “Healthy Holidays Covid-19 Response” projects; these have generally provided food parcels alongside a combination of online activities and activity boxes delivered to the doorstep. Activities vary with each project, and includes sport, physical activity, creative arts, cookery, indoor/outdoor gardening and mental wellbeing support. Some groups are also using group chat, video-conferencing and livestreaming to engage and support their children and families. Projects have been encouraged to post activity on social media using the hashtag #HHLeedsCovid19. LCF secured additional funding from Direct Line & National Emergency Fund (NET), and successfully secured funding from Department for Education for provision during the summer holidays.

What this document is about The purpose of this document is to inform patients and staff of our proposal to close Adel Surgery. The surgery at 141 Long Causeway is a branch of Alwoodley Medical Centre, which has applied to NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Group to close this branch. The closure will have an impact on patients who access services provided at Adel Surgery. This document outlines the proposed changes and gives patients the opportunity to comment on the proposed closure. We hope you will read this document and feedback your comments by midnight on Sunday 5 April 2020. 2. Background Alwoodley Medical Practice has 15,055 (correct as at 6 February 2020) registered patients, with the Adel site currently serving a registered population of approximately 2500 patients. This is just a small proportion of the total Adel population, made up of 1500 Nursery Lane and Adel patients and 1000 patients who used to be registered with Moorcroft Surgery and who joined when the two practices merged in April 2016. There has been no growth in the number of Adel postcode patients registered at the practice in the last three years. We did not increase or decrease clinical service provision despite the addition of 1000 patients with an LS16 postcode at the time of merger. Even then we have found it difficult to fill all our Adel Surgery appointments. Information available to us suggests that the appointments at Adel have been taken by patients who could not get appointments at Alwoodley Medical Centre in the significant majority of cases.
