‘CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF LOVE’ CAST BIOS KATIE LECLERC (Deb) – Katie Leclerc currently stars as Daphne Vasquez on the hit ABC family series “Switched At Birth.” In its third season, “Switched At Birth,” and Leclerc specifically, continue to drive a strong fan following and are respected and are applauded worldwide for their positive portrayal of deaf characters on television. Leclerc has been nominated for two Teen Choice Awards for her outstanding performance on the show. The first was in 2011 in the category of “Choice TV Break Out Star” and then again in 2013 in the category of “Summer TV Star.” Originally from Lakewood, Colorado and the youngest of three siblings, Leclerc got the acting bug when she starred in a local production of “Annie.” When the family moved to San Diego, she continued to pursue her desire to perform and began appearing in national commercials for such brands as Pepsi, Cingular, Comcast and GE. Leclerc got her big break at the age of 19 in 2004 when she was asked to guest star on “Veronica Mars,” starring Kristen Bell. She went on to have guest and recurring roles on such series as MTV’s “The Hard Times of RJ Berger,” CBS’s “CSI” and “The X List.” However, it is for portraying Raj Koothrappali’s gold-digging girlfriend Emily on the hit CBS series “The Big Bang Theory,” that brings her the most additional recognition. In film, she has starred in the Hallmark Channel Original Movie “The Confession,” as well as the independent features “The Inner Circle” and “Flying By” with Billy Ray Cyrus.

  • Review Selection Using Micro-Reviews
IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON KNOWLEDGE AND DATA ENGINEERING, VOL. 26, NO. X, XXXXX 2014 1 Review Selection Using Micro-Reviews Thanh-Son Nguyen, Hady W. Lauw, Member, IEEE, and Panayiotis Tsaparas, Member, IEEE Abstract—Given the proliferation of review content, and the fact that reviews are highly diverse and often unnecessarily verbose, users frequently face the problem of selecting the appropriate reviews to consume. Micro-reviews are emerging as a new type of online review content in the social media. Micro-reviews are posted by users of check-in services such as Foursquare. They are concise (up to 200 characters long) and highly focused, in contrast to the comprehensive and verbose reviews. In this paper, we propose a novel mining problem, which brings together these two disparate sources of review content. Specifically, we use coverage of micro-reviews as an objective for selecting a set of reviews that cover efficiently the salient aspects of an entity. Our approach consists of a two-step process: matching review sentences to micro-reviews, and selecting a small set of reviews that cover as many micro-reviews as possible, with few sentences. We formulate this objective as a combinatorial optimization problem, and show how to derive an optimal solution using Integer Linear Programming. We also propose an efficient heuristic algorithm that approximates the optimal solution. Finally, we perform a detailed evaluation of all the steps of our methodology using data collected from Foursquare and Yelp. Index Terms—Micro-review, review selection, coverage Ç 1INTRODUCTION ODAY, we can find ample review content in various Web micro-review of the place.

  • THESIS the USE of PARATEXTUAL DEVICES in BROADCAST PROMOTION: a CONTENT ANALYSIS of SEASON THREE of GLEE on FACEBOOK Submitted
THESIS THE USE OF PARATEXTUAL DEVICES IN BROADCAST PROMOTION: A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF SEASON THREE OF GLEE ON FACEBOOK Submitted by Rachel Timmons Department of Journalism and Technical Communication In partial fulfillment of the requirements For the Degree of Master of Science Colorado State University Fort Collins, Colorado Summer 2015 Master’s Committee: Advisor: Kirk Hallahan Scott Diffrient Rosa Martey Copyright by Rachel Timmons 2015 All Rights Reserved ABSTRACT THE USE OF PARATEXTUAL DEVICES IN BROADCAST PROMOTION: A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF SEASON THREE OF GLEE ON FACEBOOK This study analyzed all Facebook posts during the third season of the Fox Broadcast Network television show Glee (n=763), from August 2011 to May 2012. The study illustrated that Facebook posts can be considered valuable paratextual devices (Gray, 2010b) that can be used in the promotion of a television program. The program’s promoters, who served as Facebook Page administrators, used Facebook for three purposes: build viewership, enhance the live-viewing experience, and build brand awareness and engagement. Visual paratexts, such as images and videos, were used more widely than text-based paratexts. Some of the most frequently employed paratexts included previews/sneak peeks/promos, cast-member specific posts, spoilers or teasers, and music video clips. Posts were about equally split in terms of being related to specific episodes versus the show in general. Almost half of the overall posts displayed high interactivity, which prompted the users to leave the Facebook platform. These posts can be valuable if the show is interested in building brand awareness and enhancing the viewing experience, not just increasing post and Page likes.

  • Reportedly at the Hands of White Nationalists
TRUMP AND HIS SURROGATES LOUDLY PEDDLED DEBUNKED RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY THEORIES TIED TO QANON AND WHITE SUPREMACISTS, GIVING THEM FALSE LEGITIMACY SUMMARY As Trump and his allies searched for justifications to claim electoral victory, the far-right online community played a pivotal role in originating claims for the campaign to push. Conspiracies from white supremacists, QAnon supporters, and long-time conspiracy theorists were elevated, disseminated, and pushed out by the president and his allies. There seems to be a direct flow from the furthest right reaches of the internet and the official spokespeople of the president —including the president himself — such as: • The president promoting numerical figures developed by “TheDonald.Win” — an online community founded to openly post hate speech and calls to violence — in an attempt to prove his false voter fraud claims. • Promoting “Stop The Steal” events planned by white supremacists, including one that led to a stabbing reportedly at the hands of white nationalists. • Lending credibility to the mysterious, propagandic twitter account “Election Wizard,” which promotes election conspiracy theories and follows noted white supremacists and QAnon accounts. • Using a QAnon promoted conspiracy to fire a top elections cybersecurity official. • What Color Is Your Hoodie? Essays on Black Gay Identity by Jarrett Neal
______________________________________________________________________________ What Color is Your Hoodie? Essays on Black Gay Identity By Jarrett Neal New York: Chelsea Station Editions (2015). 176 pp., $18.00. ______________________________________________________________________________ Reviewed by Leslee Grey, Queens College, CUNY Abstract This review of What Color Is Your Hoodie? highlights the ways in which the essayist writes to make sense of the intersectionalities of his own identities and subjectivities. Neal’s bio- graphical vignettes serve as points of entry to discuss various social and cultural phenom- ena. The author weaves his personal stories into broad political analyses and social com- mentaries on a number of issues that are of interest to scholars of culture—in particular, race, class, masculinity, sexualities, bodies, and power. Keywords: memoir, race, sexuality Introduction Essayist Jarrett Neal (2015) underscores the role that writing plays in understanding the complex- ities, precarities, and contradictions of identities and subjectivities in an uncertain world, what Bauman might refer to as “liquid life” (2005). “Writers write to make sense of the world,” Neal explains. They “seek to map the complex psychic terrain of human experience, to make sense of a world that often makes no sense” (p. 77). Constructing stories can help individuals form connec- tions between seemingly incongruent phenomena, creating meanings that make sense to the writer in light of the writer’s prior understandings. Social and/or “identity” media platforms such as Twit- ter, Facebook, and Tumblr allow just about anyone with a mobile phone to inhabit the space of a writer, externalizing their inner psyches and joining a spectacle of endless discourse for millions to instantly consume (Debord, 2014).
