  • 2018 Nfl Season Begins on Kickoff Weekend
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 9/4/18 http://twitter.com/nfl345 2018 NFL SEASON BEGINS ON KICKOFF WEEKEND The NFL returns this week and it’s time to get back to football. Kickoff Weekend signals the start of a 256-game journey, one that promises hope for each of the league’s 32 teams as they set their eyes on Super Bowl LIII, which will be played on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA. One thing is certain: the 2018 season will be filled with memorable moments, as young players emerge onto the scene, familiar faces continue their climb up the record books and teams vie to make their mark in the postseason. The 99th season of NFL play kicks off on Thursday night (NBC, 8:20 PM ET) as the Super Bowl champion PHILADELPHIA EAGLES host the ATLANTA FALCONS at Lincoln Financial Field in a battle of the NFC’s past two Super Bowl representatives. The Eagles, who finished last in the NFC East with a 7-9 record in 2016, became the second team since 2003 to go from “worst- to-first” en route to a Super Bowl victory, joining the 2009 New Orleans Saints. Every team enters the 2018 season with hope and a trip to Atlanta for Super Bowl LIII in mind. Below are a few reasons why. THE FIELD IS OPEN: Five of the eight divisions in 2017 were won by a team that finished in third or fourth place in the division the previous season – Jacksonville (AFC South), the Los Angeles Rams (NFC West), Minnesota (NFC North), New Orleans (NFC South) and Philadelphia (NFC East).

The victory raised Duke's record to 5-6, the Blue Devils' best record since 1982, while UNC dropped to 5-6. In a season full of narrow and bitter defeats, eighteen seniors were able to walk away from their collegiate ca reers on a positive note. At halftime, however, they might have wondered if Duke was on its way to another devastating loss. Sophomore placekicker Doug Peterson had missed an extra-point after Duke's first touchdown, and after a penalty nullified a touchdown pass, senior quarterback Steve Slayden threw an ill-advised pass that was picked off in the endzone. Instead of leading by seven at halftime, Duke found it self down by one — 10-9. But the Blue Devils, aided by injuries to Tar Heel quarterback Mark Maye and star tailback Torin Dorn, exploded in the second half to out- LANCE MORITZ/THE CHRONICLE score the Tar Heels 16-0. • Does Addition of Joe Flacco Make the Broncos a Playoff Team? by Ryan O’Halloran & Mark Kiszla Denver Post Feb
Kiszla vs. O’Halloran: Does addition of Joe Flacco make the Broncos a playoff team? By Ryan O’Halloran & Mark Kiszla Denver Post Feb. 19, 2019 Kiz: Life is weird sometimes. Looking for respite from an arctic blast of winter in Wyoming last week, I sipped on a rye in Joe’s, which is proud to be the smallest bar in Rock Springs. And I was rocked by the news the Broncos had agreed to a trade for Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco. At first, I thought it must be a joke. Still do. Does football operations chief John Elway seriously think Flacco can be the key to a playoff run in 2019? O’Halloran: I was also surprised since it seems like the Broncos were bidding against themselves for Flacco instead of waiting for him to get released. I highly doubt Elway believes Flacco is the key for the Broncos to be 2019 contenders. And Elway shouldn’t believe Flacco represents even a big piece toward returning to respectability. Over the last four years, Flacco is 24-27 as a starter with 64 touchdowns and 46 interceptions. He is a long way removed from his lights-out postseason in 2012 in which he led the Ravens to the Super Bowl. The Broncos need to add many more players to be playoff-good. Kiz: OK, I get it. The Broncos have had better luck during the past 20 years with quarterbacks plucked from the recycle bin than QBs they selected in the NFL Draft. But Flacco isn’t Peyton Manning. Despite his Super Bowl ring, Flacco isn’t even Jake Plummer.

  • Seven from Sunday – Week 3
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 9/22/19 http://twitter.com/NFL345 SEVEN FROM SUNDAY – WEEK 3 A look at seven statistical highlights from games played at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 22, the third week of the 2019 season. • Four teams that missed the postseason in 2018 – the BUFFALO BILLS (3-0), DETROIT LIONS (2-0-1), GREEN BAY PACKERS (3-0) and SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (3-0) – are undefeated through the first three weeks of the 2019 season. 2019 marks the fourth time that at least four teams have started the season undefeated through their first three games after missing the postseason the previous year since 1990 when the current playoff format was instituted, joining 2013, 2003 and 2002. • The NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS defeated the New York Jets, 30-14, in Week 3. New England is the first team to not allow a passing or rushing touchdown in each of their first three games of a season in the Super Bowl era. Additionally, the Patriots are the first team to hold opponents scoreless in the first half of five consecutive games, including the postseason, the longest such streak in the Super Bowl era. Patriots quarterback TOM BRADY, who passed for 306 yards and two touchdowns in the victory, has 71 career games with at least 300 passing yards and two touchdowns, surpassing PEYTON MANNING (70) for the second-most such games in NFL history. Only DREW BREES (93) has more such performances in league annals. • Appearing in his 20th career game, Kansas City quarterback PATRICK MAHOMES passed for 374 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 132.0 rating in the Chiefs’ 33-28 win over Baltimore.
