What to Look for – Week 4 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 9/25/19 http://twitter.com/NFL345 WHAT TO LOOK FOR – WEEK 4 100 IN 100: Through the first three weeks of the NFL’s 100th season, 11 quarterbacks have a passer rating of 100 or higher (minimum 20 attempts), the most through three weeks in NFL history. That list of quarterbacks includes two rookies, DANIEL JONES (New York Giants) and GARDNER MINSHEW (Jacksonville), along with two second-year quarterbacks, KYLE ALLEN (Carolina) and LAMAR JACKSON (Baltimore). In total, six quarterbacks under the age of 25 and eight under the age of 30 have a passer rating of 100 or higher (minimum 20 attempts) through the first three weeks. Mahomes – who passed for 378 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 1 and 443 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 2 – is the first player to record at least 350 passing yards, three touchdown passes and no interceptions in three consecutive games in NFL history. Dating back to Week 6 of the 2018 season, the reigning league MVP has thrown at least two touchdown passes in 14 consecutive games. With at least two touchdown passes on Sunday at Detroit (1:00 PM ET, FOX), Mahomes can tie PEYTON MANNING (15 consecutive games) for the most consecutive games with at least two touchdown passes in NFL history. The victory raised Duke's record to 5-6, the Blue Devils' best record since 1982, while UNC dropped to 5-6. In a season full of narrow and bitter defeats, eighteen seniors were able to walk away from their collegiate ca­ reers on a positive note. At halftime, however, they might have wondered if Duke was on its way to another devastating loss. Sophomore placekicker Doug Peterson had missed an extra-point after Duke's first touchdown, and after a penalty nullified a touchdown pass, senior quarterback Steve Slayden threw an ill-advised pass that was picked off in the endzone. Instead of leading by seven at halftime, Duke found it­ self down by one — 10-9. Looking for respite from an arctic blast of winter in Wyoming last week, I sipped on a rye in Joe’s, which is proud to be the smallest bar in Rock Springs. And I was rocked by the news the Broncos had agreed to a trade for Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco. At first, I thought it must be a joke. Still do. Does football operations chief John Elway seriously think Flacco can be the key to a playoff run in 2019? O’Halloran: I was also surprised since it seems like the Broncos were bidding against themselves for Flacco instead of waiting for him to get released. I highly doubt Elway believes Flacco is the key for the Broncos to be 2019 contenders. And Elway shouldn’t believe Flacco represents even a big piece toward returning to respectability. Over the last four years, Flacco is 24-27 as a starter with 64 touchdowns and 46 interceptions. He is a long way removed from his lights-out postseason in 2012 in which he led the Ravens to the Super Bowl. The Broncos need to add many more players to be playoff-good. Kiz: OK, I get it. The Broncos have had better luck during the past 20 years with quarterbacks plucked from the recycle bin than QBs they selected in the NFL Draft. But Flacco isn’t Peyton Manning. Despite his Super Bowl ring, Flacco isn’t even Jake Plummer.

New England is the first team to not allow a passing or rushing touchdown in each of their first three games of a season in the Super Bowl era. Additionally, the Patriots are the first team to hold opponents scoreless in the first half of five consecutive games, including the postseason, the longest such streak in the Super Bowl era. Patriots quarterback TOM BRADY, who passed for 306 yards and two touchdowns in the victory, has 71 career games with at least 300 passing yards and two touchdowns, surpassing PEYTON MANNING (70) for the second-most such games in NFL history. Only DREW BREES (93) has more such performances in league annals. • Appearing in his 20th career game, Kansas City quarterback PATRICK MAHOMES passed for 374 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 132.0 rating in the Chiefs’ 33-28 win over Baltimore.
