Their farms and houses in which they lived until then remained under the surface of formed Piva lake. Due to decrease of lake level and work of hydropower plant, it is possible to see the remains of former houses. It is interesting that, due to the formation of the lake, Piva Monastery was moved from its original location – source of Piva river on which was built back in the XVI century to the hill called Sinjac, above Plužine. It was one of the most remarkable building endeavor that has lasted for 13 years and during which each stone was returned to its place, therefore 1,260 square meters of frescoes have been preserved. Depart from Plužine will mark a slight climb to the crossroad with the main road from Nikšid, where you continue to the left, towards Šdepan Polje and downhill that lasts little more that a kilometer, you come to the bridge on Piva lake. By crossing the bridge, you will become aware of the depth of the lake, which inherited its turquoise – blue color from the river Piva and grandiosity and the height of its canyon, which is today a sleeve of the lake. Next crossroad is located immediately after the bridge, where you turn right into the tunnel and here ascent begins, which will be only the prelude to the challenge that you will face later. Soon after that tunnel, you will enter the second one, also short tunnel where you need to be careful since the crossroad is located within the tunnel, i.e. left turn towards Trsa and farther towards Durmitor. You continue your ride straight, by the road which is cut into the steep slopes above the lake. After slight ascent, short downhill takes place and then ride along the flat road, in a distance of about 1km. After seven short tunnel through which you will pass, lake will remain behind you and five kilometers from the lake more difficult ascent towards village Boričje will begin. Turquoise blue water of Piva lake One of prominent points that you will definitely notice, despite the effort that you invest in mastering the ascent, is small basketball court through which you will pass because the court is set just along the road. Something more than 10 kilometers from the bridge, there is another crossroad at which left turning leads to Pišče, and then towards Trsa and the heart of Durmitor. You continue right and by riding through road serpentines, you will overcome continuous ascent, thereby leaving 5 the valley in which the village of Boričje is located. After more than two kilometers from this crossroad, you come to Boričko hill. Following asphalt road, you continue the ride, but the view from this hill towards impressive surrounding will certainly give you strength ti conquer the rest of the ascent, which is one kilometer long. Shortly afterwards, you will reach the gravel road section, about seven kilometers long, by which you continue the ride through gently waved plateau of Piva mountain. After two kilometers, gentle descent one kilometer long takes place and you will come to the place called Draškov do, where summer pasture (katun) is situated. After that, ascent 1,6 kilometer long takes place and you will overcome it with about 150 meters of heigh difference. Upon completion of the ascent, descent three kilometers long follows and you will get to 1310 meters above sea level in the village of Borkovidi, near village of Dubljevidi. After gravel road, especially poor on the last downhill section, you will reach the asphalt and turn left towards the village of Dubljevidi. Katuns and Piva mountain Katuns and katun way of life have been present for centuries in this region and thus predestined customs, culture and traditions of the local population. Thus, in order to maintain the livestock fund, looking for a spacious and grassy pastures that are located usually in the mountains, people formed katuns as summer seasonal livestock villages. Although, due to modernization of people's lives, katuns have mostly become part of the past in the areas of Piva mountain, that tradition of residing in katuns still lives, where as before according to customs and organization of katun life, housewife – planinka with shepherds and other household residents reside in katun, while one family member remains at home in the countryside. After passing through the village, you will reach the saddle (1340 meters above sea level) from where descent 3,6 kilometers long begins. Going through this section, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the view towards Piva lake and surrounding, from one of the most beautiful viewpoints on this route.
