If you read one book about an Irish ninja who became a doctor and fights zombies and Dracula, it should be this one, and not the other one, as it wasn't as good as this one. Nov 29, Stewart Tame rated it really liked it. McNinja works as a doctor, much to the disappointment of his family who are traditional ninjas. There are adventures involving zombies, velociraptors, Paul Bunyan's Disease and more. Ben Franklin has a recurring role. Ninja Dan, McNinja's father, has a most formidable mustache. It's good, silly fun. The writing is spot on with a great sense of timing. The art is passable, but improves over the course of The Adventures of Dr. McNinja Omnibus book, even showing a bit of a Steve Ditko influence toward the end. I don't know if I'd recommend this one to people, mostly because what I'd call "comic gore" shows up an average of at least once per chapter. He's a ninja, and a doctor. The Adventures of Dr. McNinja Omnibus situations can involve a lot of blood. But the writing is zany and excellent, and I love it when writers can skillfully combine absurdist humor with some serious parts that have actual emotional effect. This is well-plotted and, as with most webcomics, the art style evolves quite nicely with time. I binge-read the whole t I don't know if I'd recommend this one to people, mostly because what I'd call "comic gore" shows up an average of at least once per chapter. I will not spoil anything, but the story features a near immortal ninja who runs a pediatric clinic in a haunted forest. He goes to get pizza with the resurrected Ben Franklin II, and winds up battling an army of druggie ninjas, zombies, and Dracula. If this sounds remotely amusing to you, then Dr. McNinja is for you. Every moment is more ostentatious then the last, and, weirdly, it works. By making a character who is basically undefinable, motivated almost solely by revenge at first anywaysand The Adventures of Dr. McNinja Omnibus up The Adventures of Dr. McNinja Omnibus the most insane situations possible, the author, Christopher Hastings, created a humor based in absurd situations and the characters apathy for the lives of others.

    French Journal For Media Research – n° 6/2016 – ISSN 2264-4733 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATION, THE CULTURE OF MANGA Christiana Constantopoulou Professeure de Sociologie de la Communication Université Panteion, Athènes - Grèce Manga and Anime The popularity of anime and manga has helped westerners gain a broader understanding of Japanese culture. Manga is a generic term for all graphic novels and comic books originally published in Japan. Manga is read either in serialized comic books, monthly magazines, or graphic novels. All formats are available in English translation, graphic novels, however, are the most common and can be found in both major bookstore chains and local comic shops. The graphic novels are usually presented in "manga-style," meaning a right-to-left format. The word Manga, when translated directly, means “whimsical drawings”. Manga are typically 'comic books' as the West understands them; rather, they represent pieces of Japanese culture and history. The 'manga' style has an extensive history, beginning sometime in the 10th century; scrolls from that period depict animals as part of the 'upper class', behaving as a typical human would in similar situations. Such scrolls would go on to be known as the Chōjū giga or “The Animal Scrolls”. Scrolls found later on in the 12th century would depict images of religion such as the Gaki Zoshi (Hungry Ghost Scrolls) and the Jigoku zoshi (Hell Scrolls). While both dealt with various aspects of religion, unlike “The Animal Scrolls”, these provided a more instructive viewpoint, rather than a comedic style. Manga are more significant, culturally, than Western comic books (though many fill the same role).

The book also features an extensive rundown of the timeline history of the world of Appleseed, explaining how the world broke up into the new countries vying for control of it, as well as definitions and explanations for the technology, weapons, and various other items.
