  • The Shameful Wrong That Must Be Righted
This Year’s Nobel Prize in Medicine The Shameful Wrong That Must Be Righted This year the committee that awards The Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine did the one thing it has no right to do: it ignored the truth. Eminent scientists, leading medical textbooks and the historical facts are in disagreement with the decision of the committee. So is the U. S. Patent Office. Even Alfred Nobel’s will is in disagreement. The com- mittee is attempting to rewrite history. The Nobel Prize Committee to Physiology or Medicine chose to award the prize, not to the medical doctor/research scientist who made the breakthrough discovery on which all MRI technology is based, but to two scientists who later made technological improvements based on his discovery. WHAT EMINENT SCIENTISTS AND AUTHORS SAY “I was stunned to learn that the Nobel Committee has apparently become so political that it is willing to overlook documented evidence (1971) for the first discovery of the substantial T1 and T2 tissue differences discovered by Damadian, which have become the foundation of all NMR imaging.”— John Throck Watson, Ph. D., Professor of Biochemistry and Chemistry, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan "We are perplexed, disappointed and angry about the incomprehensible exclusion of Professor Raymond Damadian, M.D., from this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. MRI's entire development rests on the shoulders of Damadian's discovery of NMR proton relaxation differences among normal and diseased tissues and his proposal of external scanning of NMR relaxation differences in the human body, published in Science in 1971” -— Eugene Feigelson, Senior Vice President for Biomedical Education and Research, Dean of the College of Medicine, Distinguished Service Professor, SUNY Downstate Medical Center "Egg on the Nobel for Medicine's face."— V.

  • 2006-2007 Impact Report
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MEDIA FOUNDATION The Global Network for Women in the News Media 2006–2007 Annual Report From the IWMF Executive Director and Co-Chairs March 2008 Dear Friends and Supporters, As a global network the IWMF supports women journalists throughout the world by honoring their courage, cultivating their leadership skills, and joining with them to pioneer change in the news media. Our global commitment is reflected in the activities documented in this annual report. In 2006-2007 we celebrated the bravery of Courage in Journalism honorees from China, the United States, Lebanon and Mexico. We sponsored an Iraqi journalist on a fellowship that placed her in newsrooms with American counterparts in Boston and New York City. In the summer we convened journalists and top media managers from 14 African countries in Johannesburg to examine best practices for increasing and improving reporting on HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria. On the other side of the world in Chicago we simultaneously operated our annual Leadership Institute for Women Journalists, training mid-career journlists in skills needed to advance in the newsroom. These initiatives were carried out in the belief that strong participation by women in the news media is a crucial part of creating and maintaining freedom of the press. Because our mission is as relevant as ever, we also prepared for the future. We welcomed a cohort of new international members to the IWMF’s governing board. We geared up for the launch of leadership training for women journalists from former Soviet republics. And we added a major new journalism training inititiative on agriculture and women in Africa to our agenda.

  • ABSTRACT Stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans in the U.S. Media
ABSTRACT Stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans in the U.S. Media: Appearance, Disappearance, and Assimilation Yueqin Yang, M.A. Mentor: Douglas R. Ferdon, Jr., Ph.D. This thesis commits to highlighting major stereotypes concerning Asians and Asian Americans found in the U.S. media, the “Yellow Peril,” the perpetual foreigner, the model minority, and problematic representations of gender and sexuality. In the U.S. media, Asians and Asian Americans are greatly underrepresented. Acting roles that are granted to them in television series, films, and shows usually consist of stereotyped characters. It is unacceptable to socialize such stereotypes, for the media play a significant role of education and social networking which help people understand themselves and their relation with others. Within the limited pages of the thesis, I devote to exploring such labels as the “Yellow Peril,” perpetual foreigner, the model minority, the emasculated Asian male and the hyper-sexualized Asian female in the U.S. media. In doing so I hope to promote awareness of such typecasts by white dominant culture and society to ethnic minorities in the U.S. Stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans in the U.S. Media: Appearance, Disappearance, and Assimilation by Yueqin Yang, B.A. A Thesis Approved by the Department of American Studies ___________________________________ Douglas R. • The-Abyssinian-Cat.Pdf
History of the Abyssinian Cat: Within this section you will find information which will tell you a few things about where the breed may possibly have originated and/or how it was established. Many of the claims made about the breed's origin are probably more myth and fantasy than reality and controversy lingers on until today. Almost any cat book talking about the breed will start with the theory that the first Abyssinian cat was brought to England by a British soldier, in 1868, returning from Abyssinia War (Ethiopia today). Its name is recorded to be "Zula" and believed to be the founder cat of the breed. Having a closer look at the picture published to be "Zula" one would however quickly agree it has practically nothing in resemblance with the breed whether we look at pictures from early Abyssinians or at some more recent ones. The coat seems to be longish and waved rather than that of a shorthaired cat and ears are so tiny that many a modern Persian or Exotic would get embarrassed. Frances Simpson says in "The Book of the Cat" (London 1903) that the so-called Abyssinian cats of her time bore a 'very striking resemblance to the Egyptian or Caffre cat, and a picture of a painting in her book features an Abyssinian cat with ringed tail and many stripes on the legs. However, it is generally believed that all of today's domestic cats are descendants of the African Wild Cat (Felis Libyca). Harrison Weir, on the other hand, had a somewhat less avantgardistic proposal about what may have created the unique look of the breed as it was shown around this time in England and says in "Our Cats and All About Them" (1889) that a cross between the English wild cat and a domestic cat had produced kittens similar to those imported from Abyssinia, so there obviously had been some from that country.

PORTRAIT IN SEPIA 1ST EDITION DOWNLOAD FREE Isabel Allende | 9780060898489 | | | | | Portrait in Sepia: A Novel Lists with This Book. I will start with what I didn't specifically enjoy. House of the Spirits is definitely the best of the trilogy, in fact I always recommend it for people just starting Allende and it can absolutely be read as standalone, however Daughter of Fortune and Portrait in Sepia should be read together to be greater appreciated. Her doting Chinese grandfather, Tao Chi'en, a physician, secretly rescues terrified children, transported in boat cages from China, to be sex-trafficked by exploiters in San Fran's China town. Others have mentioned Paulina del Valle as the main character, and I think there's some truth to that although I see her in more of a supporting role : she raises Aurora and is around for most of Portrait in Sepia 1st edition book, and certainly has the stronger personality of the two. Should I read the trilogy again, it will most definitely be in chronological order. The only nice thing I can say about it is that I learned something about Chilean history, I guess. There is a decidedly Latin beat to the flow of her sentences. When Alexander Cold's mother falls ill, the fifteen-year-old is sent to stay with his eccentric When she is forced to recognize her betrayal at the hands of the man she loves, and to cope with the resulting solitude, she decides to explore the mystery of her past.
