Originally a small company making merry-go-rounds and other minor attractions for local amusement parks They were contracted by Disneyland in 1953 to build many of Disneyland’s trademark rides, most of which were quite different than what else was around at the time Disney was pleased with their rides and continued to hire them for many years. This resulted in Arrow’s development of the modern steel roller coaster for the Matterhorn Bobsleds During the 60s, they didn’t do much coaster-wise, but worked towards developing the log flume, a roller coaster-esque water ride where riders sit inline in log themed boats and navigate a trough of water, culminating in a major drop and splashdown In the mid-1970s, they picked back up in the roller coaster market with the development of the modern inversion, securing their position as the dominant steel coaster manufacturer in the US o Their coasters were in high demand at this time. During the 70s / 80s, pretty much every major park had an Arrow coaster, if not multiple Arrow coasters One of Arrow’s major trait was of being innovators in the industry, often being the first to create a certain style of ride o They invented the suspended coaster, a style of coaster where the cars hang beneath the track rather than ride on top, and the cars can swing freely from side to side (unlike inverted coasters).

    The Southern Scream Volume XII, Issue 2, Fall 2009 For ACE members in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, & the Florida panhandle Getting Intimidated at Carowinds in 2010 by Max Cannon Intimidator, a B&M hyper coaster, will premiere at the park for the 2010 season. A hyper coaster for Carowinds has been the subject of much speculation over the years (and no, it won’t go under the bridge.) When the park opened this year, the log flume attraction was boarded up. The attraction itself disappeared and the whole area was being cleaned up. Something big was coming. Now, we know how big. Intimidator, named after the popular NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, is being billed as the largest single investment in the park’s 37 year history. This investment will stand at 232 ft tall, the tallest B&M coaster in North America and the 8th tallest overall in the US. It will have seven drops, one each for Earnhardt’s seven championships, that will range from 211 ft to 48ft. In addition to the first 211 foot drop, the second (178-feet) and third (151-feet) hills are also taller than any roller coaster at Carowinds. This behemoth was change the face of the park in a major way. The coaster will reach up to 80mph along the 5300 plus feet of red track and grey supports, which will parallel the main guest parking lot and the turnaround will shadow over the South Gate entrance. Other features of the coaster will include: an “S” curve, a Carrick bend (AKA a panoramic u-turn), and an initial 211 ft drop at a 74 degree angle.

MONDAY, JANUARY 13, 1975 TEN CENTS U.S. grant may benefit 4 county bus lines NEWARK — Two commuter bus lines and two other bus were jointly announced yesterday by Sens. Clifford P. Advisor: Rebecca Vargha This paper analyzes the representation of women in wartime era comics during World War Two (1941-1945) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2001-2010). The questions addressed are: In what ways are women represented in WWII era comic books? What ways are they represented in Post 9/11 comic books? How are the representations similar or different? In what ways did the outside war environment influence the depiction of women in these comic books? In what ways did the comic books influence the women in the war outside the comic pages? This research will closely examine two vital periods in the publications of comic books. The World War II era includes the genesis and development to the first war-themed comics. In addition many classic comic characters were introduced during this time period. In the post-9/11 and Operation Iraqi Freedom time period war-themed comics reemerged as the dominant format of comics.
