Staff Bios 2020-21 Goldenwest Volleyball Club – Staff Bios 2020-21 Jason Dillard – Owner/Club Director/Recruiting Coordinator – Jason has owned/directed and been a coach in the club since 2004. In a 21-year career Jason has been involved in the College, High School and Club Volleyball levels. He spent 11 seasons at Fullerton College, 4 as the Head Coach, 7 as an Assistant. Prior to Fullerton, Jason spent a year and a half at UC Riverside as an Assistant Coach. He spent 6 years at Esperanza (his alma mater), 1 season at Mater Dei (won CIF and 2nd in State). Jason will serve as the club’s recruiting coordinator and is looking forward to helping GW players reach the college level! Doug Kawa – Assistant Club Director & Coach - Doug has been a part of the Goldenwest VBC Staff since 2009 and Assistant Club Director since 2014. Doug has coached teams in the all age divisions at GW, including teams in the 18’s and 16’s Junior Olympic Open Division and most recently winning a Bronze Medal at the AAU National Championships in Orlando (2018). During his 14 years of coaching experience, Doug has been the Head Coach at Santiago Canyon College (2016-2018), Sunny Hills HS (2009- 2012) and an Assistant Coach at Fullerton College (2009-2015). Doug graduated from Gonzaga University in '05. Lauryn Andrew – Head Coach 18 / 15 Asics – Lauryn recently returned to Los Angeles after 5 years in San Diego and this will be her second season at Goldenwest Volleyball Club. She has 12 years of college, high school and club coaching experience. She was the JV and Varsity coach at Centennial HS (Corona) while also working at Mavericks VBC where she trained many college level athletes. After moving to San Diego Lauryn coached at Cuyamaca College and for Epic VBC (working with the 12s and 18s). She earned her MA in English from California State University, Northridge, and her BA in English from the University of La Verne. Patrick “Paka” Dutro – Co-Head Coach 18 Asics - Patrick “Paka” begins his second season with Goldenwest coaching staff for the 2019-20 season and will serve as an assistant coach. He brings 16 years of coaching experience to GW, having coached high school, club and college teams while also working as a club director. Paka was born and raised in Hawaii and played basketball and volleyball at Kaimuki High School. He then attended Santa Monica College before starting his coaching career. Paka has recently coached at St. John Bosco, Long Beach City College, Long Beach Volleyball Club and currently works at Servite HS. Jaclyn Chavez - Head Coach 17 Asics – Jaclyn has been at coach at Goldenwest Volleyball Club since 2005 and has coached in the 15’s – 18’s age divisions. She is the first, and only, Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Yorba Linda High School since the school opened in 2009 where she teaches Math as well. Prior to that, Jaclyn was the Women’s JV coach and Varsity Assistant at Esperanza High School (her alma mater) beginning in 2003. She has lead YLHS to 3 league champions and in 2014 YLHS was ranked amongst the top 10 teams in Orange County by the OC Register. Lexy Winters – Head Coach 17 Black – Lexy begins her 3rd season as a Head Coach at Goldenwest VBC. Lexy played locally at Esperanza HS and GW! She received a 4-year scholarship to Nyack College in New York, where she was a 6 rotation outside hitter all 4 years. Lexy was named to the All Tournament Team her senior season. She has been coaching club volleyball in NY since her freshman year and spent as season as an assistant coach at GW as well. Dave Huber – Head Coach 16 Asics – Dave began coaching at Golden West Volleyball Club in 2006. He has worked with teams in our 15-18s Age Groups. This will be his first Season as the Head Coach of our 16 Asics Team. Prior to his coaching career, Dave was a Division 1 college player at Long Beach State University where he was an outside hitter, and graduated in 2005. He is the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Los Alamitos High School, a position he has held since 2007. His teams have been to 3 CIF finals, winning the 1AA championship in 2011 and 2013. Lily Lopez – 14 Asics Head Coach - Lily has been a coach in the club since 2012. She spent two seasons as an Assistant Coach at Santiago Canyon College (2016-17), five seasons working with the Boys’ / Girls’ Volleyball Programs at Yorba Linda HS (2011- 2015) and still volunteer coaches there. Lily had a standout career at UC Santa Barbara as a 4-year starter for legendary coach Kathy Gregory from 2008-2011. She was selected to the All Freshman Team in the Big West Conference in 2008. Lily is a wonderful role model and coach for the players at Goldenwest Volleyball Club! Sarah Duncan – 13 Asics Head Coach – Sarah has been coaching at GW since 2010 and played four years for us as well. She attended Esperanza High School and was part of the 2005 CIF Championship Team. Sarah played at Fullerton College where she helped lead the team to the State Championship Tournament. In addition to coaching club, Sarah was previously on the coaching staff at Yorba Linda High School for 5 seasons. Sarah does a fantastic job at player development and is an important asset to Goldenwest Volleyball Club. Jessica Kaeka - 12 Asics Head Coach - This will be Jessica's first season with Goldenwest Volleyball Club. She has worked with the Women's Program at Lakewood High School and has an amazing grasp of how to teach the fundamentals. She has worked our summer program as well as our 14 and under pre-tryout clinics. Adam Wadley – Coach – Adam has been with Goldenwest VBC since the 2013-14 Season. He graduated from Wilson High School where he played volleyball and was a Libero at Long Beach City College. Adam is currently studying kinesiology at Cal St. Dominguez Hills and the Lakewood High School Girls’ Volleyball JV Head Coach. In 2016, Adam won a State Championship assisting the Men’s Volleyball program at Long Beach City College. Mike Wadley - Coach - Coach Wadley has been a coach at GW since 2008-09. He is entering his 25th year at Lakewood High School and 17th as the head coach. In those 17 years he has had 23 All-CIF, 11 All-Americans and 5 Fab-Fifty players suit up in a Lancer uniform. He has sent 33 student/athletes to schools such as: UCLA, Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, Pepperdine, UNLV, University of Miami, University of Illinois, to name a few. Mike is currently the Women’s and Men’s Athletic Director at Lakewood High School and will bring those skills, as well as coaching, to our club this season. Additional GW Coaches: John Xie – Club Consultant – John has been a consulting coach at GW since 2014. You will regularly see John during our Position Training going from court to court giving individual instruction, showing position specific video and conferring with GW staff. John has served as the USA Women’s National Team Director of Operations and Resident Coach and Head Coach of the Blizzard Men’s Professional Volleyball Team. He also spent 10 years as the USC Women’s Volleyball Assistant, and 5 Seasons as a Men’s Assistant as well. John has proven to be a great resource for our players and coaches alike. Alyson Utke – Coach – Alyson is a former Goldenwest VBC player who played two seasons at Goldenwest College on both their indoor and beach teams. She went to two State Playoffs on the beach finishing 3rd in her two seasons. Alyson is pursuing a degree in Communications and this will be her 4th season as an assistant at Goldenwest VBC. Megan Marrujo – Coach – This will be Megan’s third season as a coach at Goldenwest Volleyball Club. She attended Cornelia Connelly High School where she played Varsity Volleyball and Basketball. Megan is the Head Varsity Women’s Volleyball Coach at Connelly (since 2016), and second year Head Coach of the Varsity Women’s Basketball Team. .

MEETING MINUTES (January 25, 2010) Minutes were approved as submitted. 3. GOOD NEWS REPORTS Esperanza High School Congratulations to Mr. John King and the Women’s Soccer program named by ESPN RISE Magazine as number one in the State. The National Merit Scholarship program has determined which of the 16,000 semifinalists named in September have met all requirements to advance to Finalist Standing in the competition. The following students are finalists from Esperanza: Emily Cheng, Michael Taylor, Sarah Patno and Lynn Yu. In early February, Esperanza was proud to celebrate Signing Day with 20 athletes who will go on to play college sports. At the event, student athletes were recognized for their hard work and success. They gathered in the gym to sign their scholarship papers and take photos with family and friends. Six additional Aztec athletes have yet to make a decision on which university they will attend. The Academic Decathlon team received a 2nd place overall team score at the recent Orange County competition. The team earned 40 individual subject medals, 2nd and 4th place plaques and $1,100 in scholarship money. The Speech and Debate Team received a 3rd place sweepstakes trophy at the Orange County Speech League Open Tournament at Sonora High School. Twenty schools from Orange County were in attendance. The Winter Formal Dance in mid-February was a big success with over 600 students enjoying music and refreshments at the Marconi Center in Tustin.

    Esperanza High School Memo To: Faculty From: Ken Fox Date: September 30, 2014 Re: Keeping you informed AFJROTC – On Saturday, September 20th, 14 cadets from Esperanza’s new AFJROTC unit competed at the Athletic Field Meet sponsored by the Navy JROTC unit at Troy High School. Although we’re a very new team , Esperanza came home with two trophies! Our cadets worked hard and had a lot of fun. They’re already making plans for next year and aiming to bring home even more trophies. Senior Meetings – are scheduled for the month of October to mid November. Each senior in a small group setting, will meet with their counselor to check on graduation status, college applications and community service.
