"Red Tape" is the story of a group of European immigrants attempting to enter the United States, with the entire action of the production taking place in the offices of the assistant commissioner of immigration on Ellis Island in New York Harbor. Among the immigrants is a trio of Russian Communists, a love- sick girl attempting to be reunited with her lover, a royal pair from Germany, an Englishman, and a most tempting French siren. This group accounts for most of the action in Red Tape," which will run tomorrow night and Jan. 17, 18 and 19. Tickets for tonight's and the remaining performances are on sale in the Student Affairs Business Office. Prices are $1 for general admission and 75 cents for students. Bob Montilla, a co-author of "Red Tape" with Manny Correa, is the production director of the show. Montilla describes "Red Tape" as being a comedy with music. Montilla and Correa wrote the lyrics for the show and Richard lash pooduced the music. There are 13 musical numbers in the pro- duction. RUSSIANS DOMINATE COMEDY The comic leads in the show of Boris, Igor and Max are played by Bob Gordon, Jim Dunn and Don West. From 1950 to 1984, dissenting police throughout the city reinvented themselves as protesters, workers, and politicians. Part of an emerging police labor movement, Chicago’s police embodied a larger story where, in an era of “law and order” politics, cities and police departments lost control of their police officers. My research shows how the collective action and political agendas of the Chicago police undermined the city’s Democratic machine and unionized an unlikely group of workers during labor’s steep decline. On the other hand, they both perpetuated and protested against racial inequalities in the city. To reconstruct the political realities and working lives of the Chicago police, the dissertation draws extensively from new and unprocessed archival sources, including aldermanic papers, records of the Afro-American Patrolman’s League, and previously unused collections documenting police rituals and subcultures.

Its metal frame arched toward the desert sky like the vulture-eaten ribs of a cattle’s corpse. This was the reward for over two hours veritably parked on a six-mile strip of highway in some far-off nowhere in Arizona.
