  • History of Downtown Sounds As a Way to Bring People Into the Downtown, the Glen Cove Down- Town B.I.D
Fred Guarino Downtown Sounds Chairperson Welcome to the 2019 Downtown Sounds Concert Series! The Glen Cove Downtown Sounds concert series has achieved a well re- spected, and enviable position in the entertainment field on Long Island. The growth of the series has attracted many talented artists who express their desire to perform at our venue each year. It has now become “The Place to Be!” We are extremely grateful to Nassau County Legislator, Delia DeRiggi - Whitton for stepping in and supporting our program this year, as well as the City of Glen Cove for their continued support. And a huge thank you to all of our loyal sponsors. None of this would be possible without them. I would like to acknowledge the dedicated work of our talented committee members, who donate their time and energy throughout the year to make the program run smoothly, and bring you the very best. I would also like to thank the Downtown BID for making this possible. We strive to improve our services and are constantly looking for new ideas to make our shows a better experience, and an enjoyable season for our citizens. We welcome your input too, so please contact us with any ideas or suggestions. We have an exciting talent line up this year. So sit back, enjoy the show, and let’s have some fun! Fred Guarino Chairperson of the Downtown Sounds Committee History of Downtown Sounds As a way to bring people into the downtown, the Glen Cove Down- town B.I.D. in 1997 created its first free concert series, Jazz in The Square.

  • Commanding Officer CDR Erik Franzen 2014 Food Fest and Air Show
NAF EL CENTRO Issue 35 PUBLISHED BY THE NAF EL CENTRO PAO February 2014 Commanding offiCer CDR Erik Franzen 2014 Food Fest and Air Show We are rapidly approaching the show date for our annual Air Show. As many of you know we are the winter home of the Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron. In addition to having the privilege of watching them practice overhead for three months, we also get the honor of hosting their first performance of the air show season. For those of you that are new to the base and the area, I wanted to pass along some information, or gouge as we call it in the aviation business. Starting the week of the Air Show, we transition into Air Show mode around the base and you will see less flight training and more event execution throughout the base. There will be a number of aircraft, both civilian and military that will be flying into the airfield starting on Wednesday afternoon. The first event of the week is the Food Festival on Friday, March 14th, at 1730 and is held at Hangar 6 (that is our largest hangar on the south side of the field across from medical). The Food Festival is an event that allows our local restaurants and vendors a chance to show case their specialties. The general concept is that they provide small portions (think tapas style) so that you can try a number of food booths over the course of the evening. Tickets or “scrip” are available for purchase at four locations in and around the hangar.
