Muito obrigada a todas e a todos! “meu recado às mulheres contem suas histórias descubram o poder de milhões de vozes que foram caladas por séculos.” Ryane Leão (2017) RESUMO A presente investigação tem por objetivo efetuar uma crítica da tradução ao português brasileiro (2000) do primeiro romance de Gioconda Belli, La mujer habitada (1988; 1998), e trazer à luz a participação feminina na sociedade e na literatura nicaraguenses, tendo em vista que o papel da mulher vem sendo sistematicamente ignorado pela historiografia oficial. Com tal perspectiva, pretende-se analisar se a tradução atenua o protagonismo das mulheres no romance e se transfere esse papel de destaque para os homens, como também se ocorrem mudanças de ordem ideológica no texto traduzido. Assim, a crítica considera os Estudos Feministas da Tradução (EFT), com o propósito de identificar se as divergências percebidas na tradução do romance ocorrem puramente por dificuldades linguísticas ou se provêm de um processo cultural de invisibilização da figura da mulher. A pesquisa, nesse sentido, parte da análise e da discussão do macro, isto é, da literatura escrita por mulheres na América Central até chegar ao micro, à obra de Gioconda Belli e ao romance La mujer habitada. Desse modo, versa sobre crítica da literatura de mulheres centro-americanas no século XX (García Irles, 2001; Zamora, 1991; Vargas Vargas, 2013), crítica de romances históricos (Mata, 1995), mais especificamente, crítica de romances históricos escritos por mulheres na América Central (Hélédut, 2018; Inés Antón, 2017), história e literatura nicaraguenses (Ribeiro, 1992; Gontijo, 2019; Belli, 2010) e protagonismo social feminino na Nicarágua (Randall, 1989). A pesquisa reflete, ainda, sobre a recepção e a crítica literária da obra de Gioconda Belli no Brasil e sobre o mercado internacional e nacional de traduções (Casanova 2002a, 2002b; Inés Antón, 2017; Karam, 2016). Por último, analisa-se a tradução de La mujer habitada, através de uma perspectiva feminista (Castro Vázquez, 2009a, 2009b) e considera-se se há mudanças no potencial ideológico da tradução (Garrido Vilariño, 2005). ABSTRACT This master's research aims to carry out a criticism of the translation of Gioconda Belli's first novel, La mujer habitada (1988; 1998) into Brazilian Portuguese (2000), and to recover female participation in Nicaraguan society and literature, considering that the role of women has been systematically ignored by official historiography. Thereby, we intend to analyze whether the translation attenuates the role of women in the novel and if it transfers this prominent role to men, as well as we seek to find out if ideological changes occur in the translated text. Therefore, our critic considers the Feminist Translation Studies (FTS), with the purpose of identifying if the changes detected in the translation of the novel occur purely due to linguistic difficulties or if they come from a cultural process of woman figure's invisibilization. The research, thus, starts from the analysis and discussion of the literature written by women in Central America until reaching at the work of Gioconda Belli and the novel La mujer habitada. In this way, the dissertation deals with criticism of Central American women literature in the 20th century (García Irles, 2001; Zamora, 1991; Vargas Vargas, 2013), criticism of historical novels (Mata, 1995) and more specifically criticism of historical novels written by Central American women (Hélédut, 2018; Inés Antón, 2017), Nicaraguan history and literature (Ribeiro, 1992; Gontijo, 2019; Belli, 2010) and female social roles in Nicaragua (Randall, 1989). It also reflects about the reception and literary criticism of Gioconda Belli's work in Brazil, as well as on the international and national translation market (Casanova 2002a, 2002b; Inés Antón, 2017; Karam, 2016). Finally, the translation of La mujer habitada is analyzed through a feminist perspective (Castro Vázquez, 2009a, 2009b) and it is considered whether there are changes in the ideological potential of the translation (Garrido Vilariño, 2005). RESUMEN El objetivo de esta investigación de maestría es hacer una crítica de la traducción al portugués brasileño (2000) de la primera novela de Gioconda Belli, La mujer habitada (1988; 1998) y sacar a la luz la participación femenina en la sociedad y en la literatura nicaragüenses, considerando que el rol de la mujer ha sido y sigue siendo sistemáticamente ignorado por la historiografía oficial. Así, esta tesis busca analizar si la traducción atenúa el protagonismo de las mujeres en la novela y si transfiere ese rol prominente hacia los hombres, como también analizar si hay cambios en la ideología del texto traducido. De ese modo, nuestra crítica se basa en los Estudios Feministas de la Traducción (EFT) con el propósito de identificar si los cambios detectados en la traducción de la novela ocurren puramente por dificultades lingüísticas o si provienen de un proceso cultural de invisibilización de la figura de la mujer. La investigación, en suma, parte del análisis y de la discusión de la literatura escrita por mujeres en América Central para llegar a la obra literaria de Gioconda Belli y a la novela La mujer habitada. Dr. Kenneth Kreitner, Ph.D. This paper explores the Colombian nationalistic musical movement, which was born as a search for identity that various composers undertook in order to discover the roots of Colombian musical folklore. These roots, while distinct, have all played a significant part in the formation of the culture that gave birth to a unified national identity. It is this identity that acts as a recurring motif throughout the works of the four composers mentioned in this study, each representing a different stage of the nationalistic movement according to their respective generations, backgrounds, and ideological postures. The idea of universalism and the integration of a national identity into the sphere of the Western musical tradition is a dilemma that has caused internal struggle and strife among generations of musicians and artists in general. This paper strives to open a new path in the research of nationalistic music for violin and piano through the analyses of four works written for this type of chamber ensemble: the third movement of the Sonata Op. 7 No.1 for Violin and Piano by Guillermo Uribe Holguín; Lopeziana, piece for Violin and Piano by Adolfo Mejía; Sonata for Violin and Piano No.3 by Luís Antonio Escobar; and Dúo rapsódico con aires de currulao for Violin and Piano by Andrés Posada.

    Performa ’09 – Conference on Performance Studies University of Aveiro, May 2009 The role of the development of the guitar and the changing performance techniques on the evolution of “folia variations” written for the guitar Bülent Ergüden, Yıldız Technical University This paper focuses on how the compositional processes, the development of the guitar as an instrument, and its performance techniques specifically affected the folia theme and the variations written for this instrument, considering that the folia theme and the variations have constantly evolved over four centuries. In this research, the folia is treated as the framework, the role of improvisation and variation in the evolution of a musical work in general and the historical, cumulative effects on the folia are ontologically viewed within the model ‘living organism’. Musical forms evolve during the course of history. When composers add new elements to their work in a given form, they cumulatively contribute to the evolution of that form. The main elements that help this evolution are melody, rhythm, harmony, style, structure, and the development of instrumental technique. In this article, the influence of the evolution of instruments and performance technique on the composition of folias will be investigated. Although it first appeared during the Renaissance, the golden age of folia was during the Baroque period. In the first volume of his four-volume treatise called The Folia, The Saraband, The Passacaglia and The Chacconne, Richard Hudson investigates the folia and its form (Hudson, R.1982:XV-XXXVIII). He notes that the common aspects of all these four dances are that they were written for the five-course Baroque guitar and feature the variation form.

    John Griffiths Improvi sati on and Composition in the Vihuela Songs of Luis Milan and Alonso Mudarra The aim of this study is to explore the accompanied solo songs included in two collections of Spanish vihuela music from the first half of the sixteenth century and their possible links with unwritten improvisatory traditions. In contrast to the arrangements of vocal polyphony for voice and vihuela in later books, the songs of Luis Milan and Alonso Mudarra are unique not only in Spanish music, but also in a broader European context. 1 Until very late in the sixteenth century, most Jute songs in European sources are intabulated arrangements of chansons, motets, madrigals, frottole and other polyphonic genres. 2 The questions raised by the songs considered here concern the provenance of the solo lute song and the manner in which it was cultivated by early practitioners.3 Traditional readings of the development of European music see Milan and Mudarra's vihuela songs as something of an anomaly. Older and now generally outrnoded theory, rooted firmly in source studies, held that the known tradition of solo instrumental music was born in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, and that its subsequent development was a process of gradual eman- cipation from the dominant polyphonic tradition that spawned it. On the other hand, the accompanied solo sang has been viewed as one of the great novelties of the late sixteenth century and, as a novelty of its time, is championed as one of the key inventions that separates the musical baroque from the renaissance.

    A BSTR A C T Title of Dissertation: REBORN IN THE 20 TH CENTURY: THE CHACONNE AND PASSACAGLIA THROUGHOUT VIOLIN LITERATURE Pyung-Kang Sharon Oh, Doctoral of Musical Arts, 2021 Dissertation directed by: Professor James Stern, Strings Department In the late 16 th century, the chacona was the most energetic and wild type of baile, a popular Spanish dance. It was a lively, suggestive, and festive peasant dance, which, by the early 17 th century, had developed into a distinct variation form involving a repeated bass line or chord progression. This performance dissertation explores the symbolic significance of both the chaconne and the passacaglia in performance as well as in written form. The performance was a recital program which comprised the Bach Partita No. 2 for Solo Violin and the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1, each featuring the chaconne and passacaglia respectively in their emotionally climactic movements. I performed the recital with pianist Hsiang-Ling Hsiao, on November 1, 2016, in the Gildenhorn Recital Hall. In this document, I explore how the chaconne in violin repertoire has changed over time by analyzing the repeating units, stylistic changes, and historical backgrounds. The paper is organized into two parts. Part I surveys the Baroque period chaconnes. The earlier, celebratory chaconnes include works by Monteverdi, Bertali, and Corelli. The elegant and courtly chaconnes include works by Schmelzer and Lully; the chaconnes representing fate include works by Biber, Purcell, and Bach. In the Classical and Romantic periods, the chaconne was discontinued, but it becam e revitalized again in the 20 th century. Part II discusses 20 th -century chaconnes and the im petus for its rebirth after a long hiatus.

Although its earlier history includes periods of neglect as far as art music is concerned, it has always been an instrument of popular appeal, and has become an internationally established concert instrument endowed with an increasing repertory. In instruments of the highest quality these have traditionally been made of carefully selected woods: the back and sidewalls of Brazilian rosewood, the neck cedar and the fingerboard ebony; the face or table, acoustically the most important part of the instrument, is of spruce, selected for its resilience, resonance and grain (closeness of grain is considered important, and a good table will have a grain count about 5 or 6 per cm). This study brings to light fandango rhythmic structures applied in selected works, using literary research and data collection techniques. After the literary research, the study limited to investigate the rhythmic structures of fandango used by the Mexican composer Manuel Ponce (1882-1948) in the following works for guitar: Prelude A minor, Theme Varie et Finale, Variations sur “Folia de Espana” et fugue, Prelude E Major, Vespertina, Variations on a Theme of Cabezón and Concerto del Sur for guitar and orchestra. It was noted that the works mentioned were written after the meeting with Spanish classical guitarist Andrés Segovia (1893-1987) whose artistic influence was fundamental for the use of this famous popular dance by the composer. It is concluded that Ponce did not conceive the fandango as a dance, unlike the other composers; he developed a gestural technique of the rhythmic element of the fandango in singular works, thus enriching the classical guitar repertoire.
