Our patients come from all social and ethnic backgrounds with a large proportion of elderly patients, many resident in local sheltered living premises and three local residential homes. Our elderly patients have a high prevalence of one or several chronic diseases. We also serve patients with severe learning disabilities resident in three local assisted living premises.

In spite of many patients from ethnic backgrounds the need for professional interpreters is very small due to mostly fluent or good language skills of these patients.

Aims and Objectives:

Our main objective is to serve the medical needs of our registered patients well, in a friendly and welcoming environment, and to a high clinical standard in line with local and national guidelines.

We aim to provide a comprehensive service to all our patients, engaging as far as capacity and skill mix allow, with the provision of enhanced services (often transferred out from secondary care) not just for the convenience of our patients, but also for our own professional satisfaction in our daily clinical practice.

We pride ourselves on providing our patients with timely access to our services and for responding to requests for urgent/on the day appointments with doctors and nurses and we aim to continue to do so without resorting to diverting our patients to alternative services.

It is our aim that all our clinicians maintain and regularly update their knowledge and skills for the benefit of our patients. We regularly organise in-house educational meetings by inviting experts from secondary and primary care.

It is our aim to deal with, respond to, and learn from complaints and comments from our patients promptly and meaningfully.

We aim to continue our support for an active Patient Participation Group and attend their meetings when invited.

It is our aim to maintain good professional relationships with our colleagues in community care (district nurses, community case managers, community midwife, and health visitor, who we have regular meetings with), our in-house and other community pharmacists, and our colleagues in secondary care.

We aim to remain active in Teaching, Training, and Clinical Research.

We aim to continue to play an active part in the Central Locality of Birmingham and Solihull CCG and are part of a recently formed Primary Care Network. Two years ago we joined the local GP Federation SDSmyhealthcare, which developed from SDS (SouthDOCServices) GP on-call cooperation, which we have been a founding member of since its inception over 20 years ago). Through the federation we fulfil our contractural obligations of extended weekday and weekend access including telephone consultations.
