The Database
THE DATABASE The Database displayed on pages 207 - 219 is, largely, self-explanatory but it should be remembered that only the names of those casualties from Neston, Parkgate, Little Neston, Ness, Burton and Puddington have been included providing that they meet the conditions outlined in section Ⓐ Who’s been included - and who’s not on pages 3 - 6 of the Introduction to this work. For a consideration of some of this information see A BRIEF SYNTHESIS AND ANALYSIS OF THE DATA on pages 267 - 283. A total of 171 different men are recorded in the Database; each man has a List Number (shown in purple) which indicates the order in which their entry appears in this work and a Page Number (shown in red) which identifies the starting page in this work for their entry. The entries within the Database begin with those individuals commemorated on the memorial plaques within the churches of Neston and Burton. The plaques in Neston Parish Church record names on two lists although, for reasons now unknown, the names are not in strict alphabetical order; in this work, and on the Database, this irregularity has been retained. Following the church-commemorated names a significant section of the Database is devoted to other ‘locals’ who died as a consequence of WW1 but who, for whatever reason, are not commemorated at a church in Neston or Burton. Chlorurus geuozonatus showed a positive Calotomus viridescens allometric growth while Calotomus viridescens; Cetoscarus bicolor; Parrotfish Chlorurus sordidus; Chlorurus gibbus; Hipposcarus harid; Scarus frenatus; growth type Scarus ferrugineus; Scarus fuscopurpuerus; Scarus ghobban; scarus niger and Scarus psittacus were show a negative allometric growth. Isometric growth was represented by two species Hipposcarus harid and Scarus colon. 98% of the studied species had "R²" values higher than 0.90, which indicated the increase in length will contribute with increase in weight. -

HASTINGS1 SYNOPSIS: The establishment of the fish fauna on a new jetty at East Pass at the mouth of Choctawhatchee Bay, Okaloosa County, Florida, was studied from June, 1968, to January, 1971. Important components of the jetty fauna during its initial stages of development were: (a) original residents that exhibit some attraction to reef habitats, including some sand-beach inhabitants, several pelagic species, and a few ubiquitous estuarine species; and (b) reef fishes originating from permanent populations on offshore reefs. -

CLEMENTS3 1School of Tropical and Marine Biology, James Cook University, Townsville, QLD, 4811, Australia 2Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, Ancon, Balboa, Republic of Panama 3School of Biological Sciences, University of Auckland, Private Bag 92019, Auckland 1142, New Zealand Received 5 March 2012; revised 23 May 2012; accepted for publication 23 May 2012 Phylogenetic reconstruction of the evolutionary relationships among 61 of the 70 species of the parrotfish genera Chlorurus and Scarus (Family Labridae) based on mitochondrial and nuclear gene sequences retrieved 15 well-supported clades with mid Pliocene/Pleistocene diversification. Twenty-two reciprocally monophyletic sister- species pairs were identified: 64% were allopatric, and the remainder were sympatric. Age of divergence was similar for allopatric and sympatric species pairs. Sympatric sister pairs displayed greater divergence in morphol- ogy, ecology, and sexually dimorphic colour patterns than did allopatric pairs, suggesting that both genetic drift in allopatric species pairs and ecologically adaptive divergence between members of sympatric pairs have played a role in diversification. Basal species typically have small geographical ranges and are restricted to geographically and ecologically peripheral reef habitats. We found little evidence that a single dominant process has driven diversification, nor did we detect a pattern of discrete, sequential stages of diversification in relation to habitat, ecology, and reproductive biology. The evolution of Chlorurus and Scarus has been complex, involving a number of speciation processes. -
