48 49 JOURNEY BACK IN TIME IN FLAURLING

Flaurling is a pretty village located Innsbruck and Telfs. It lies on the old salt trading route and for several years has been part of the St. James’s Way Trail, a long-distance pilgrimage ending in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. A typical Tyrolean farming village, it was first mentioned in AD 763 as" Flurininga". This guided tour showcases its rich history, which is closely interwoven with that of Tyrol, and Europe. Passing through the village, participants will be made aware of important historical buildings such as the salt storehouse and the Mühlbach stream used by local millers and craftsmen over the centuries. There are several architectural highlights dating back to the Middle Ages, some of which were gifted by the ruling Habs- burgs to the Church around the year 1500. The Risschloss castle is an example of one such building. Most of the historical buildings were actually constructed as replacements for even earlier works. For example, the Classi- cist church dedicated to Saint Margaretha was built on top of the ruins of an earlier church form the 14th century. CULTURE Today the centre of Flaurling is home to several lovingly reno- vated private houses. The village and its inhabitants are still proud of its long and noble history.

Twice a week (TUE & SAT) there is a history guided tour of Flaurling. Visitors with the WELCOME CARD can take part free of charge. Please book in advance.
