Matthew J. Siegel, Director of Photography Matt Siegel began his career shooting fashion and industrial photography for the clothing company Esprit de Corp. His client list expanded to include still assignments with Buzz and Details magazines in Italy, the Czech Republic, and Poland. In time, this work led back to American clients Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and Wells Fargo Bank. His initial film work garnered the prestigious Kodak Cinematography Award, which included study at the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest, Hungary. Since his cinematography studies, Matt has been lighting and shooting commercials, feature films, music videos, and documentaries for diverse groups ranging from Audi AG to Warner Bros. to ABC/Wide World of Sports. In commercials, the controversial Sprite “Extreme” spot earned him a CLIO award, while his highly stylized work for NCAA/NIKE Woman’s Basketball has been recognized with JOEY and TELE awards. For television and documentary, Matt has teamed with the Discovery Channel as director of photography on Bridges, Skyscrapers, and Tunnels and the Nickelodeon Network for Hervic In Cloudland. Following up the Olympic games, he photographed the ABC prime-time special on women’s sports entitled Game For Anything. He filmed the short-lived WB series Phantom Investigators and served as camera operator and 2nd unit DP on the WB series Everwood. the CBS drama Joan of Arcadia, and the Jerry Bruckheimer show Just Legal. Theatrical features include Crime Partners, Simon, Between Us, Some Prefer Cake, and the upcoming Mexican Werewolf in Texas, Raising Genius, and Miss Wannamaker County. He has also had success in the short film genre with Ripple and TallGIRL, which screened at Cannes and Sundance respectively. Cinematography has brought him from South America to Europe and out to New Zealand, capturing a wide range of images: From the deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon to Alpha- Romeo automobiles in the Italian Lake region and recently aboard the elegant yachts of the America’s Cup races. As the United States representative to Kodak’s European DOP Seminar, Matt became involved with product development for the Eastman Kodak Company. His role with the company has evolved as he now conducts workshops worldwide featuring Kodak’s new VISION2 films. He has also spent eight years as an instructor for Aaton and Panavision cameras and as a consultant and teacher for Mole-Richardson and Kino Flo lighting systems. With an interest in diversifying, Matt has been active in R&D with SONY Entertainment’s Lab24p and their SONY/Panavision HD/24p and Genesis camera systems. He has facilitated and taught International Cinematographer’s Guild workshops and serves on the faculty for Panasonic’s Nationwide Varicam/P2 HD Workshops and at The International Film Workshops in Rockport, Maine.
