International History Seminar on Irrigation and Drainage Tehran-Iran May 2-5, 2007 TRADITIONAL IRRIGATION TANKS IN NANDED DISTRICT (INDIA) Prof. U.D. Kulkarni1 and Mandar Mahajan2 ABSTRACT India has a long tradition of construction of chain of tanks as rainwater harvesting structures for agriculture, fishing, domestic needs and groundwater recharge. The undulating topography of Deccan plateau provided a good base for these innovative but simple structures, which the early settlers developed with their indigenous skill and technical advice from local craftsmen. Tanks are eco-friendly, ensure groundwater recharge, and provide protective and efficient irrigation. During the medieval period village communities owned and managed the tank system, collected taxes without interference from the state. During British period the tank systems were transferred to the state. Even after independence in 1947, the role of tank as a source of irrigation is getting eroded continuously. Poor status of tanks is attributed to centralized administration resulting in breakdown of community institution and system failure due to meager resource allocation. Urbanization is a phenomenon affecting the tank ecosystem on the fringes of the cities and upcoming towns. The expansion of human settlements poses a big threat to the common properties like tanks which are owned by the state, are taken over by the various departments for the construction of government offices, housing colonies, bus stands and other utilities. It has been established beyond doubt that the cities like Chennai have faced major groundwater drought due to total elimination of water bodies, which existed in the middle of urban settlements. The Dharmabad block in Maharashtra has 46 tanks constructed in 18th century, out of which six tanks were around the town of Dharmabad.

One of the passengers in an e-ticket should carry proof of identification during the train journey. 3. Voter ID card/ Passport/PAN Card/Driving License/Photo Identity Card Issued by Central/State Government are the valid proof of identity cards to be shown in original during train journey. 4. The input for the proof of identity in case of cancellation/partial cancellation is also not required now. 5. The passenger should also carry the Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) during the train journey failing which a penalty of Rs. 50/- will be charged by the TTE/Conductor Guard. 6. Time table of several trains are being updated from July 2008, Please check exact train starting time from boarding station before embarking on your journey. 7. For normal I-Ticket, booking is permitted at least two clear calendar days in advance of date of journey. 8. For e-Ticket, booking can be done upto chart Preparation approximately 4 to 6 hours before departure of train. For morning trains with departure time upto 12.00 hrs charts are prepared on the previous night. 9. DISTRICT SURVEY REPORT FOR NANDED DISTRICT PART –A FOR SAND MINING OR RIVER BED MINING Prepared under A] Appendix –X of MoEFCC, GoI notification S.O. 141(E) dated 15.1.2016 B] Sustainable Sand Mining Guidelines C] MoEFCC, GoI notification S.O. 3611(E) dated 25.07.2018 1 1.0 Introduction : Hon’ble Supreme Court of India vide its judgement dated February 27,2012 and further relief amendment dated April 16,2012 directed all state, union territories and ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India, New Delhi to screen mining of minor minerals leases within the purview of EIA notification 2006 and made requirement of environmental clearance to minor minerals less than 5 ha compulsory. Ministry of Environment & Forest , GoI vide its office Memorandum L-11011/47/2011.IA.II(M) dated 18.05.2012 directed mass to comply Ho’ble Supreme Court decision. Further streamlining of environmental clearance procedures, MOEFCC, GoI amended EIA notification 2006 vide S.O. 141(E) dated 15.01.2016 where procedure for preparation of District Survey Report (DSR) for minor minerals has been prescribed. Further the procedure for preparation of DSR and format is amended vide MOEFCC notification S.O. 3611(E) dated 25.07.2018. The subjected DSR is defined at “ Appendix -X (See Paragraph 7(iii)(a)” of the notification S.O.141(E)dated 15.01.2016 and S.O. 3611(E) dated 25.07.2018 Accordingly this document is prepared by DEIAA, Nanded, Maharashtra State.
