Old Testament commentators have shown some awareness of ancient Near East literature in recent years, but typically do not dig deep enough to recognize its value. If these much-maligned chapters of Genesis are translated and understood as Adamic/Semitic history, not as human history, they make perfectly good sense. Only the King James Version is examined here, but the principles apply to all translations.
