The glossary and all other contents of the catalog are subject to amendment by Daniel Buck by the posting of notices or by oral announcements made during the sale. All properties offered by Daniel Buck as agent for the Consignor unless the catalog indicates otherwise. By participating in a Daniel Buck sale, the Consignor, Bidder and Buyer agree to be bound by these Terms and Con- ditions. 1.) BEFORE THE SALE. Except for Online only auctions, all lots are available for inspection before and up to the begin- ning of the sale. Condition Reports are not included in the catalog description, but can be requested by contacting Dan- [email protected]. Any prospective bidder is encouraged to contact Daniel Buck Auctions for any information regarding the condition of any lot. Daniel Buck does not warrant the condition of any item. Any potential Buyer who is inter- ested in the condition of an item, are encouraged to contact Daniel Buck and, to the best of our ability, we will document for the prospective bidder the condition status of any lot the buyer is possibly interested in. All Property is sold “AS-IS, WHERE IS, ALL SALES FINAL” without recourse, and neither Daniel Buck nor the consignors make any representations or warran- ties, expressed or implied, as to the catalog description, attribution, authenticity, provenance, origin, size, age or condition of any of the property offered. It is the responsibility of the purchaser, prior to the auction, to examine the property and deter- mine on their own all of the above. If requested of Daniel Buck prior to the sale and in a timely manner and when possible, Daniel Buck will offer an “opinion” on condition and authenticity but this does not relieve the buyer from responsibility to personally inspect the property they are possibly interested in purchasing, prior to the auction. All measurements and weights offered in the catalog are approximate. The buyer must offer prompt payment and shipping arrangements. NOTE: If you are planning to purchase a Firearms), and your domicile is any state other than Maine, be sure that you are able to pur- chase, or take possession of, the firearm(s) that you are planning to bid on in your state. If you are the successful bid- der and you are not allowed to take possession in your state of residence of the firearm that you bid on, you will still be responsible to pay the Buyer’s Premium to the auction house. 2.) HIGHEST BIDDER. The highest bidder at the completion of each item sold will be acknowledged by the auctioneer and the auctioneer ONLY. After such acknowledgment, title passes to the successful bidder. The bidder thereupon assumes full risk and all responsibility for the property, including the obligation to pay the full hammer price, buyer’s premium, and if applicable, internet fees. All potential bidders must register before the auction and sign a bidder registration form. Daniel Buck shall have the right to reject any bid from anyone, including, but not limited to, those who have not established credit prior to the auction in a timely manner. 3.) BUYER’S PREMIUM. A Buyer’s Premium will be added to the hammer price of each lot. The Buyer’s Premium is 13%, 10% if paid by Cash or good Check. Also, there will be a 5% additional charge on all purchases made through the in- ternet. 4.) PAYMENT. Unless previous arrangements have been made with Daniel Buck, payment with good funds is due at the completion of the auction for bidders attending the sale including 5.5% Maine Sales Tax unless we have a copy of a buyers resale certificate on file. All Absentee, Online and Telephone bidders must pay for all purchases in full with cleared funds within five (5) days of the sale. All purchasers, both foreign and domestic, with total purchases being under $2,000 may pay by MasterCard or Visa. Daniel Buck reserves the right to hold all property until funds have cleared through our bank. If pay- ment is not received in full within thirty (30) days of the sale, Daniel Buck will charge 1.5% monthly interest charge due on the date and the anniversary of the first day of the next thirty (30) day cycle. There also will be a $25 Transfer Fee for each of the modern firearms sold in this auction. 5.) PROPERTY PICK UP. Successful bidders must pick up all property within five (5) days of the sale unless other ar- rangements have been made with Daniel Buck. All packaging and shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser. Daniel Buck will assume no responsibility for damage to property not picked up within that time period. Storage charges may be applied for items not picked up within that time period. All Firearms sales will be subject to Federal background checks, with no exceptions. 6.) NON-PAYMENT. If the purchaser fails to fulfill any of the above Conditions of Sale, in addition to all legal remedies available, Daniel Buck may at its sole discretion: a.) cancel the sale and retain any and all payments made as liquidated dam- ages, b.) resell the property at public auction or privately for the account of the buyer, in which case the buyer shall be lia- ble to Daniel Buck for all of its costs and damages, including the commission for both sales and any shortfall if the property sells for less than originally sold for, c.) remove the property to a public warehouse at the expense , and at the risk, of the buyer. 7.) RESERVES. Some lots do carry reserves or minimum selling prices. This is an amount agreed upon by the consignor and Daniel Buck below which a lot will not be sold. Daniel Buck will execute these reserve bids. The reserve will be at or below the low estimate, but estimates can be changed either in writing or verbally by the auc- tioneer at any time prior to the offering of each lot. 8.) TELEPHONE BIDS. If you are willing to open a lot for at least 50% of the low estimate, we suggest you place an Absentee Bid. Bids above those amounts will be executed for you competitively. Please note that errors may occur with telephone bids for a number of reasons including, but not limited to, cell phones that are out of calling range and busy signals. Under absolutely no circumstances will Daniel Buck be responsible for problems incurred with telephone bidding. 9.) REGISTERED BIDDERS. As a registered bidder you agree that any legal action that is brought against Dan- iel Buck or any of its employees and officers will be brought in the courts of the State of Maine or a Federal court sitting therein. 10.) ENDANGERED SPECIES. Certain lots may contain materials from animals considered to be endangered species. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to make sure that shipment to their location is allowed. 11.) BIDDING. Bidding on any item at Daniel Buck indicates your acceptance to these terms and any and all terms announced before or at the time of the sale whether bidding in person, by absentee bid, by telephone or by online bidding. 12.) ABSENTEE BIDDERS. Unless known to Daniel Buck, absentee bidders must supply at least two (2) refer- ences from other American auction houses, a fax number and a credit card number prior to the sale. Statements will be mailed the next business day after the sale and payment upon receipt of that statement is requested. Pay- ment must be received within 15 calendar days of the date of the sale or a service charge will be charged at 1.5% at that time and on the start of each additional 30 day period. 13.) MAINE AUCTIONEER RULES AND REGULATIONS. The Maine Auctioneer Rules and regulations are regulated by the Maine Board of Licensing of Auctioneers, 35 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333.     Marlin 336 The other classic backwoods home deer rifle By Massad Ayoob In the March/April 2005 issue of Backwoods Home Magazine, this space was devoted to the “Winchester ‘94: the Classic Backwoods Home Deer Rifle.” And you know, even when I was writing that paean to the lever-action .30-30 that sold over five million units since the year 1894, I knew that I’d have to follow up with an article on the other such deer rifle, Marlin’s Model 336. Marlin introduced their Model 1893 rifle in the eponymous year, initially in old black powder calibers like the .32-40 and .38-55, but soon chambered for the .30-30 Winchester round. Some 900,000 of these guns were made between then and 1935, when the company replaced it with their sleeker Model 36. Where Winchester emphasized a lean, mean straight- stock design with a slim, spare fore-end, the Marlin had a pistol grip style stock with its lever loop bent accordingly, and a fuller fore-end. These attributes were carried into the newer gun, destined to be their longest-lived deer rifle: the Model 336, introduced in 1948 and still Marlin’s most popular hunting rifle. The rest, as the saying goes, is history. At the SHOT Show—it stands for Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade, the largest trade show in the firearms industry—in Las Vegas in January, 2005, I had the privilege of looking over a handsomely engraved rifle that was Marlin’s four millionth Model 336. From the early days, the Marlin’s solid frame with ejection to the right side (instead of out the top of the mechanism, as with the Winchester) was one of its distinguishing features.

Gun makers orig- inally were attracted to Connecticut because of that state’s many assets—year-round water power, a skilled industrial labor base, good ports and rail lines, and proximity to the major population centers of New York and Boston—all of these contributed to that centralization. These factors were especially prevalent at Norwich. The City of Norwich was founded in 1659. By the time of the American Revolution, it had grown to become one of the 10 largest cities in the Colonies.1 It was richly endowed with all of those assets desirable in a manufacturing site, not the least of which was the confluence of the Shetucket and Yantic Rivers, which merged at Norwich to form the navi- gable Thames River. Argentine versions tend to have slightly different parts measurements than Belgian-made FALs due to local manufacturing methods; therefore, most parts of the FSL series are not interchangeable with more standard FALs. The Fusil Automatico Liviano Modelo IV (FALM IV) is an Argentine-made copy of the Belgian FAL Model 50-00. It is virtually identical to the FAL, but is heavier and has a more substantial muzzle brake. The Fusil Automatico Liviano Modelo Para III (FALMP III) is virtually identical to the FAL 50-64, but again is longer and heavier, with a longer muzzle brake.
