Barrel Racing Report June 12, 2012 Page 25 Asmussen & Valid Lark Sing At WRAPN3 At the WRAPN3 As Good As Nick Gets Barrel Race at the Rose Palace in San Antonio, TX on June 9 & 10 the fastest time of the In Reality weekend was run by thoroughbred Valid Lark and jockey Catherine Valid Appeal Asmussen. It is common to see thoroughbreds in the pedigrees of Dseert Trial barrel horses but it is not very common to see “pure” thorough- Valid Expectations breds like Valid Lark winning barrel races. Iron Constitution Since leading thoroughbred trainer, Steve Asmussen, is her uncle Mepache and her whole family is involved in thoroughbreds, it would make Nowmepache sense that Catherine Asmussen would be running a thoroughbred. Steve Asmussen is a leading thoroughbred race trainer of such Valid Lark TB champion horses as Curlin and Rachel Alexandra and was the Eclipse Award recipient of the Outstanding Trainer in 2008.
