Expands projects to include infrastructure necessary to prevent base reduction or closure and funding to train workers. • Former State Representative Connie Scott confirmed by the Senate as a member of the Governor’s Texas Military Preparedness Council (TMPC). • The City of Corpus Christi has applied for DEAAG money, grants will be awarded on Dec. 10 by the TMPC Washington D.C. He is the general responsible for the Corpus Christi Army Depot • Sergeant Major Glen Vela, serves as the top non-commissioned officer to Major General Richardson The Challenge • Military drawdown after Iraq and Afghanistan • WH Directive to Pentagon to reduce spending • Congressionally mandated sequestration • Pentagon call for BRAC • Existing Pentagon authority to close or manage facilities: warm basing, closure and consolidation • Ongoing competition for depot work from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) Sucesses • Assisted with $85 million of new funding for CCAD for new construction. • Successful opposition to legislative efforts of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to frustrate movement of workload at depots. • Successful support for state funding of Texas Military Communities in the Texas Legislature (DEAAG). Sucesses • JLUS. The City of Corpus Christi has acquired land by Cabiness Field, Waldron Field and the South Gate of NASCC. The city would like to enter in to an intergovernmental support agreement with the Navy to make it easier to negotiate land deals • Wind Turbines/City Annexation. The Chamber has passed a resolution in support of the City of Corpus Christi’s authority in its ETJ with regard to wind turbines in anticipation of a proposed Wind Farm coinciding with flight patterns. The City was able to annex the land. • Employment for service members separating from the military, military spouses, and veterans. Employment prospects in Corpus Christi are booming with $32 billion in investments at the Port of Corpus Christi. The Corpus Christi Chamber has co-sponsored two military job fairs featuring 57 area employers with 360 job seekers. Our next fair is planned for 2016.
