Foto/ Credit: Manca Čujež 4 PLANINSKA ORGANIZACIJA V LETU 2014 lovenska planinska organizacija (Planinska zveza Slovenije in včlanjena društva) se je od leta 1893 do danes na temelju prostovoljstva UVODNIK Srazvila v eno izmed najbolj množičnih in vsebinsko najbogatejših nevladnih organizacij v Sloveniji. Razvoj je potekal skozi štiri različne družbene sisteme in kljub temu je planinska organizacija od začetka do danes uspela ohraniti svoje osnovno poslanstvo, to je organiziranje različnih aktivnosti v gorskem svetu, skrb za planinsko infrastrukturo (planinske poti in planinske koče), varovanje gorske narave, skrb za varnost v gorah in skrb za planinsko kulturo. Skozi čas se je tem osnovnim dejavnostim pridružil še širok spekter dejavnosti, ki so tako ali drugače povezane z gorami. V Letopisu Planinske zveze Slovenije za leto 2014 smo poskušali pripraviti pregled vseh najpomembnejših dogodkov in aktivnosti, ki smo jih na podlagi sprejetega programa dela izvedli v preteklem letu. Vsak izbor pa je vedno malce subjektiven, saj mnenja o tem, kateri so najpomemb- nejši dogodki, niso vedno enotna. Vseeno pa upamo, da smo uspeli primerno predstaviti jedro programa dela, ki smo ga izvedli v letu 2014. V letu 2014 smo morali redni pro- gram dela dopolniti še z odpravo posledic februarskega žledoloma in snegoloma, ki sta po naših ocenah poškodovala 40 odstotkov sloven- skih planinskih poti zunaj visoko- gorja. To je za planinsko organizacijo predstavljajo ogromen izziv, enega izmed največjih do zdaj. Številni prostovoljci so v manj kot letu dni opravili izjemno delo in tako veliko večino poškodovanih planinskih poti usposobili za uporabo. Vodstvo Planinske zveze Slovenije se iskreno zahvaljuje vsem, ki so v letu 2014 sodelovali pri izvajanju programa dela in s tem prispevali svoj delež k razvoju in prepoznav- nosti planinstva tako doma kot v tujini. Foto/ Credit: Manca Čujež MOUNTAINEERING ORGANIZATION IN 2014 ince 1893 to the present, the Slovenian mountaineering organization – Planinska zveza Slovenije (the Alpine Association of Slovenia) Sand its alpine clubs – has grown on the basis of volunteering into one of the largest and the most content-rich non-governmental or- ganizations in Slovenia. It has been evolving through four different social systems, and in spite of this, the mountaineering organization has been able to maintain its fundamental purpose from the beginning until now. Its mission has been to organize various activities in the mountains, maintain the mountain infrastructure (hiking trails and mountain huts), protect the mountain nature, promote safety in the mountains, and preserve mountaineering culture. Over time, these basic activities were joined by a wide range of activities which are, in one way or another, connected with the mountains. In the Yearbook of Planinska zveza Slovenije 2014 we endeavour to offer an overview of the most important events and activities which were carried out in the past year on the basis of the adopted work programme. Such selections are always a bit subjective, since the opinions on which events are the most important are not always unanimous. However, we hope that we have been able to adequately present the core of the work programme which was actualized in 2014. In addition to our regular work programme in 2014, we also had to implement the elimination of the damage caused by ice and snow in February, which according to our estimates affected 40 percent of Slovenian mountain trails below high mountain

Secession Ljubljana is one of the most recognisable parts of the city and that part of our cultural heritage which put Ljubljana alongside the biggest Art Nouveau capital cities, such as Brussels, Vienna, Paris, Barcelona. On Easter, 14th of April 1895 at 11.17pm CET time, Ljubljana, with ! its 31,000 citizens and 1,400 buildings, was shaken by a very strong earthquake (its aftershocks were existing all the way to Vienna in Austria, Split in Croatia and Florence in Italy). About 10% of the buildings had to be demolished and all the rest were in need of a restoration.

THE AREA – THE CITY LJUBLJANA BASICS The capital of the Republic of Slovenia, a European Union member state since 2004 Area: 275 km2 Population: 283,000 Average temperature in January: - 0.3 °C Average temperature in June: 20.7 °C Temperature in the beginning of October: low 10, high 21°C (photo: panoramic view of the city with the castle) HISTORY Legend has it that Ljubljana was founded by the Greek mythological hero Jason and his companions, the Argonauts, who had stolen the Golden Fleece from King Aetes and fled from him across the Black Sea and up the Danube, Sava and Ljubljanica rivers. At a large lake in the marshes near the source of the Ljubljanica they stopped and disassembled their ship to be able to carry it to the Adriatic Sea, put it together again, and return to Greece. The lake was the dwelling place of a monster, which Jason fought, defeated and killed. The monster, now referred to as the Ljubljana Dragon, found its place atop the castle tower depicted on the Ljubljana coat of arms.
