He scored 12 goals in the 1966 Durand Cup to play a key role in the title victory for the Gorkha Brigade in New Delhi. Rawat represented India in the 1969 Medreka Football Championship in Malaysia. The club was established in the name of Vijay Khatri, who was the first goalkeeper of the club. The club made its humble beginning in the 40’s. Earlier, it was known as Cantt Sports Club. In February, 1950, the name of Cantt Sports Club was changed to Vijay Cantt Sporting Football Club.
