Sports India and World
SPORTS INDIA AND WORLD World Cup Cricket History The idea of organising a World Cup of cricket was mooted and agreed to in principle in 1971 when such a proposal was discussed at a meeting of the International Cricket Conference in London. However, due to various commitments the tournaments could not be staged until 1975 when the original plan of a South African team's visit to England fell through following opposition to the country's racial policy. England's Prudential Assurance Company came forward with sponsorship and for three consecutive years - 1975, 1979 and 1983, the one-day limited overs cricket tournament was held in England. It became famous as the Prudential Cup. In the first two tournaments, apart from the six full members of the International Cricket Conference (England, Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, India and Pakistan), Sri Lanka, before being elevated to Test status in 1981, had joined East Africa in 1975 and Canada in 1979 (two top teams among the associate members) to complete the groups in the tournaments proper. The West Indies, under Clive Lloyd, not only won the first two tournaments in 1975 and 1979 but in true Calypso style they produced sparkling cricket and confirmed their unassailable supremacy in this game. India broke the West Indian stranglehold in 1983 to open a new chapter in the brief annals of this prestigious tournament. Abstract A case study is a "published report about a person, group, or situation that has been studied over time. If the case study is about a group, it describes the behavior of the group as a whole, not behavior of each individual in the group. Case studies can be produced by following a formal research method. These case studies are likely to appear in formal research venues, as journals and professional conferences, rather than popular works. The resulting body of 'case study research' has long had a prominent place in many disciplines and professions, ranging from psychology, anthropology, sociology, and political science to education, clinical science, social work, and administrative science. Key Word: Football, Case Study. Introduction Soccer is the most popular competitive sports in the world today. To nudge or kick a pebble or stone in front of us is a common temptation. So, even if there are no records, we can assume that some kind of foot ball was a part of man’s life, in primitive days. In historic times some races used their enemies served heads as footballs. The Romans are said to have fostered football as a part of their military training. It is generally assumed that Roman soldiers brought the game to Britain. The game of football is one of the most popular and simple game in the world. -
Introduction
CHAPTER – 1 INTRODUCTION Delhi is a symbol of India’s culturally rich past and thriving present. Apart from being a political centre of India, Delhi is also a commercial, transport and cultural hub, making it a city most cherished and visited by all. These factors have given the route to host the inaugural 1951 Asian Games, 1982 Asian Games, 1983 NAM Summit, 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup, 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2012 BRICS Summit, one of the major host cities of the 2011 Cricket World Cup, which have glorified Delhi’s fame all over the world. It has state-of-the-art healthcare, transport, and public services. Delhi represents a beautiful amalgamation of ancient culture and modernity. 2. A varied history has left behind a rich architectural and cultural heritage in Delhi. In the words of famous Urdu poet, Mir Taqi Mir, Delhi’s streets were not alleys but parchment of a painting, every face that appeared, seemed to be a masterpiece. On one side it has Old Delhi, narrow lanes rich in history and fragrances of food as unique as Old Delhi, and on the other side, it has New Delhi which has lush green areas of the Lutyens and diplomatic zones. 3. Delhi has also been famous for its various gardens and botanical parks. The Garden of Five Senses, the Lodi Gardens, the Mughal Gardens, the Buddha Jayanti Park, and Nehru Park are some of the gardens famous among the people of the city. The city has several historical monuments that are highly treasured by the country. Delhi is home to some of the nation’s best collection of art galleries and museums, which showcase everything from ancient antiquities to contemporary art.
