Vol – XII Sarasota, FL. 34237 MANASOTA FL PERMIT #184 Words From the East Brothers, this is my last written message for 2013 and I will try to make it as brief as possible. It has been a year full of various activities and many accomplishments. However, we definitely had a setback due to the relocation of our Junior Warden, Brother Joe Reynolds, who accepted temporary employment in Michigan. This occurred in August and we were fortunate to have W:. Mike Swatek who agreed to take the position on a pro tempore basis through the remainder of the year. In view of this, I have to give special thanks to all of my officers who stepped up and took on extra duties to help run the Lodge and the many degrees and activities associated with it, especially in the area of food preparation and service. Special thanks and heartfelt appreciation also go out to R:. W:. Frank Albinson and W:. Joseph Goggin for their efforts in advancing this Lodge to another new high. Their knowledge and in- struction for all aspects of degree work have helped many of our Brothers in their advancement in Freemasonry. I would remiss if I did not also recognize our Secretary, W:. Derl Smith, and our Treasurer, W:.

  • History of Phoenix Lodge No. 8, Af& Am, Fayetteville, North
“HISTORY OF PHOENIX LODGE NO. 8, A.F.& A.M., FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, BY WILLIAM L. RAMSEY, PM”, 1959. NO ONE KNOWS the origin of Phoenix Lodge No. 8 for it is veiled in mystery. The first Grand Lodge of England was formed in 1717 and at that time seven or more Masons could meet and organize a Lodge. In 1736 the Grand Lodge of Scotland was organized, and it is likely that there were several Masons in the group that settled in Campbellton (the first name of the settlement) in 1737. These Scottish Masons wishing to continue their Masonic work, no doubt, organized a Lodge and continued through the years, taking the name of Union Lodge, which name it held when it issued the call for the first convention to organize - the Grand Lodge of North Carolina which was to be held on June 24, 1787, in Fayetteville. There were not a sufficient number of delegates attending the convention, and the convention adjourned to meet in Tarborough the following December 9, 1787, at which time the Grand Lodge of North Carolina was formed. The Grand Lodge of North Carolina convened in Fayetteville on November 17, 1787, Sat which time, Union Lodge presented a petition that its name be changed to Phoenix. (The change has never been explained.) Phoenix Lodge is the third oldest Masonic Lodge in North Carolina having continuous existence. In 1793, the ground upon which the present building stands was donated to the Lodge by Brother James Hogg, a devoted Mason and a man of means, who took a prominent part in the affairs of state.

  • Freemasons' Quarterly Magazine and Review
THB FREEMASONS' QUARTERLY MAGAZINE AND REVIEW. DECEMBER 31, 1851. MASONIC RETROSPECT. WITH this number of the "FREEMASON 'S QUARTERLY MAGAZINE AND REVIEW " we close the year 1851,—a period long to be remembered, as one of the most remark- able that has ever, perhaps, occurred in our country's history. It is not, however, with the political events, which have transpired during the year, that we have to deal ; neither is it any part of our province or duty to refer to the great religious struggle, which still goes on in the world. We also doubt very much whether we have any right to refer to the mercantile transactions, which have been of an unusual character, or to the operations of trade, which have either been benefited or depressed by the various circum- stances that have crowded upon each other in rapid suc- cession. On these accounts, therefore, we dismiss all such subjects from our minds, and leave them to those, who are more deeply interested in them than we are in our present position. We have to deal with quite another subject ,— one that is far more to our taste than those we have enu- merated—THE PROGRESS OE FREEMASONRY at home and abroad. In the natural order of events we will first consider the position of the Masonic Order in England at the close of 1851. In looking back upon the year, we are able to con- gratulate the entire Fraternity, no less than ourselves, upon the decided progress which has been made. It is true, that the opportunity afforded by the Great Exhibition was not VOL.

  • Freemasonry in Gosport Since
Horndean & The Development of Freemasonry Since 1715 Freemasonry existed in the area long before 1715. It is documented here from 1715, through its formal structuring in 1717 to the present day. Its history, combining Kings of England, Nazi persecution, local events and interesting developments, are explained in easy format. Horndean & The Development of Freemasonry Since 1715 Introduction Freemasonry existed in some form well before 1715, indeed Elias Ashmole, the Antiquary and Founder of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, records in his diary for 1646 that he was made a Freemason in a lodge held for that purpose at his father-in-laws house in Warrington. This eBook however, is not intended as a history of Freemasonry per se, as this can readily be obtained from many other sources. The intention is to supplement the PowerPoint Presentation given on this topic for those requiring a record of the subject matter presented; although it can easily be read as a stand alone document. To enable a ready understanding of some terminology often used, the following may be useful as a guide. The term mason is often qualified by the description, operative or speculative. Masons were operative masons who utilised masonry tools in a practical manner in the construction of a physical building. Freemasonry as it developed from 1717 onwards usually relates to speculative masons. In speculative freemasonry, the masonic tools represent a code of conduct on how to conduct ones life and related morals in symbolic form. It is thus a philosophical approach rather than a physical or operative one. So when we take a closer look at the Operative versus the Speculative Mason we see one case a group of men makes use of a set of principles to erect a building, whilst the other another group uses the same principles to build character.
