------I found this awesome "Green Directory" on the Sustainable Tulsa web site. They have links for recycling batteries, computers, tires, yard waste and even a link for what can be included in curbside pick-up. Check out this list: http://www.sustainabletulsa.org/green_directory and thank Sustainable Tulsa for putting this together!

------Elaine Meek, Co-Chair of "Transit Matters" (local advocacy group for public transportation) is trying to get funding for Tulsa's public transportation needs. Please check out the web site and sign the petition. Quite frankly, Tulsa' transit system leaves a LOT to be desired, so I'm really glad that Elaine is leading this charge. The show addresses, with humor, the anxiety today's young adults face when they realize that, in spite of what they've been told all their lives, their options are limited and they really aren't that special. With songs like "It Sucks to Be Me", "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist", "The Internet Is for Porn", and "I Wish I Could Go Back to College", this show is intended for mature audiences only. Something's brewing with the Sutton Avian Research Center. Something other than the critically important work of conserving Oklahoma's endangered, rare and neglected bird species, that is.

On Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in Tulsa Expo Square's Central Park Hall, friends of Sutton Center present Wild Brew 2012. This one-of-a-kind event combines fare by Tulsa's best restaurants with first-rate beers by artisan brewers from the U.S. and around the world ... plus live band music by local favorites Mid-Life Crisis, plus Shelby Eicher and Mark Bruner.

If you've heard of Wild Brew before, you know it's a terrific time in support of an internationally recognized, nonprofit conservation organization. Funds from the event underwrite ambitious educational projects such as the bald eagle nest Web cam, an exciting statewide live bird school program and the Sutton Natural History Forum and scholarship program. These activities teach kids the importance of native birds to our ecosystem in a way that's fun, meaningful and consistent with Oklahoma school standards.

You can take part in this legendary Tulsa event by purchasing a ticket and attending or

18 becoming a sponsor.

Tickets are $60 and must be purchased in advance. Check out the participating restaurants and variety of beers that will be served! http://wildbrew.org/

Tulsa Weather Coalition

The Tulsa Weather Coalition is an innovative initiative designed to prevent death or worsening of health problems among frail elderly and other medically fragile people during the extreme heat of Tulsa's summers.

Air conditioners are purchased using private donations, at a cost of $100-$150 per unit based on size and availability. Monetary donations of any amount are needed. Donations of new air conditioners are also welcome. The Coalition cannot accept donations of used air conditioners.

Households which meet health and income criteria may receive loaned window air conditioning units. Most recipients have limited mobility and are low-income. Medical criteria include congestive heart failure, emphysema, renal dialysis treatment, burns, HIV/AIDS, and other serious illnesses. Community Service Council's 2-1-1 Helpline coordinates the work of the Coalition and receives the requests for assistance.

The Tulsa Weather Coalition's mission is to reduce loss of life and costly hospitalizations caused by the extreme temperatures and humidity of summer. The Coalition originated in 1980 in response to a heat wave that claimed the lives of 13 Tulsa residents. The program aims to prevent heat related deaths and illnesses through public education and by loaning room size air conditioners to low-income, seriously ill persons.

Frail and seriously ill Tulsans, at-risk of hospitalization or death from heat related illnesses, receive home visits, extensive information and education about dealing with life-threatening heat and other conditions, and, if eligible, are loaned a room sized air conditioner. Most clients have limited mobility and are not able to access other cool environments with relatives or friends. Most air conditioner recipients are over 55 years of age and have serious lung or heart disorders.

To find out more about Tulsa Weather Coalition services, dial 2-1-1 to be connected to

Tulsa Grout Restoration - locally-owned and operated

You have to know about a locally-owned business with which I am THRILLED - Tulsa Grout Restoration, leader in grout and tile cleaning, grout color sealing, and minor grout repair. Owned by long-time friends, JD and Ruth Smith, THIS is the company to call if you are sick of your icky grout!

Anyone who has visited Demetrius' and my home knows the long, sad story of our kitchen remodel gone bad when an improperly installed pot filler leaked water throughout the kitchen floor. The grout cracked and tiles shifted - it was just an icky mess. Every time I mopped the kitchen floor, I just pushed dirty water into cracked grout - not a pretty picture.

28

Yes, we had the floor professionally cleaned once, but it didn't last long. With three dogs and heavy traffic, the tile floor and filthy grout just got worse.

JD and Ruth cleaned the tile, then stained the grout THE COLOR I WANTED, then sealed it. Oh my gosh, you can't imagine how pleased I am with the end result. This ugly grout has caused me to curse for years, and now it is beautiful, clean and looks better than new!

JD and Ruth think the stained and sealed grout in the tile will last 2-3 years, but they may be underestimating the traffic we get in our kitchen (big 4th of July party coming up)! I don't care if I have to do this on an annual basis - it just brightened the entire kitchen and put a huge smile on my face!

Here are some before and after photos of our ceramic tile floor. JD replaced two tiles that had shifted significantly - we couldn't step on them for two days, which is why they have bottles of water placed on them.
