A CHOOSING A PUB-FRA OF DANCERS

The Queen of Britain's Ballrooms for Coronation Year will be chosen at the Empress Hall, Earl's Court $ London, on Friday evening, April 24. She will be crowned by Oracle .Fields, who is coming straight from the Palladium to perform the ceremony. Contenders for the title are 34 girls, whose beauty, dancing ability, grace and charm have carried them successfully through preliminary contests and area finals to the Grand Finals of ' rihe People" National Ballroom Queen Contest. Over 10,000 girls competed in this year's contest. Full details of the Grand Finalists are given on pages 5 to IS.

JUDGING THE CONTEST

One panel of judges will award marks for charm in a series of private interviews, and for beauty and grace as the competitors walk to the middle of the dance floor and curtsey. The Judging Panel consists of Miss Elizabeth Allen Miss Betty Paul . Miss Gillian Mantell (Reigning Ballroom Queen) Miss Vera Clark Mr. Gilbert Harding _ Mr. Harry Ainsworth (Editor of 'The People ) Another panel will assess dancing ability while the competitors and their partners dance the waltz, foxtrot and quickstep.

FASHION NOTE

All the dresses worn by the competitors have been specially created for them by the Bay fair fashion house of Roecliff and Ghanman. The dresses, all different, are ankle length, with full skirts made of layers of tulle or net over taffeta. Many of them are trimmed, in the latest fashion, with straw.

The competitor who wins the title of Coronation Year National Ballroom queen in the Grand finals will be awarded 'The people® Ballroom queen Challenge Trophy and a purchase voucher for -1000 a generously manned Holiday for Two with special attractions, a Holiday Travelling Case, a Presentation Case of Goya Perfumes and Bath Preparations, a 'Film Star' Beauty Casket„ and six pairs of Morley nylon stockings. .Her partner will receive a purchase voucher for £50 and a presentation set of 'Brillox'.
