Son Little Presents New Single/Video, “Neve Give Up” New Album January 15, 2020 For Immediate Release Son Little Presents New Single/Video, “neve give up” New Album, aloha, Out January 31st On ANTI- (Photo Credit: Shervin Lainez) “With bluesy distorted guitar chords, a hint of Latin rhythm and perhaps a distant echo of the Zombies ‘Time of the Season,’ Son Little offers a genial comedown in ‘hey rose’...” — The New York Times “Son Little has a lithely expressive voice that can locate forgiveness, sorrow, and ecstasy in even the most hackneyed turns of phrase.” — The New Yorker Son Little, the moniker of Los Angeles-based musician Aaron Earl Livingston, will release his new album, aloha, on January 31st via ANTI-. Today, he premieres the video for the new single, “neve give up,” via Billboard. Following previously released singles “hey rose,” “suffer,” and “mahalia,” “neve give up” is a gorgeous track about perseverance. “Hallelujah,” Little sings, “though I’m battered and blue / feel like I’m born to lose…Never will I give up.” It is a potent reminder that letting go doesn’t mean giving in; it can be an act of defiance, of growth, of empowerment. The accompanying animated video was created by Piotr Kabat. Watch Video For Son Little’s “neve give up” - https://youtu.be/jaZcnBog0Zs In anticipation of aloha’s release and in conjunction with the premiere of “neve give up”, Son Little is also pleased to present his performance on NPR’s World Cafe. The episode is available to listen to here. Recorded at Paris’s iconic Studios Ferber with producer Renaud Letang (Feist, Manu Chao), aloha is Little’s first album to be recorded with an outside producer. The result is his boldest, most self-assured statement yet. In order to create aloha, Little began writing and assembling album demos in Petaluma, California. However, after his hard drive fried and he lost nearly a dozen detailed demos, he was forced to begin with a blank slate, leading him to write aloha in only eight days at a tiny house and its adjacent barn. The entire project was an exercise in letting go, in ceding control, in surrendering to fate. This Friday, Son Little will kick off a North American tour in support of aloha. Afterwards, he will continue to tour across Europe. A full list of tour dates is below and all dates are on-sale now. Rarely does she fail to take her greater aesthetic into consideration: For instance, her debut album Whack World , was a minute visual album odyssey inviting others into her obscure world. Eilish is the bad guy, and you damn well should be scared of this year-old because it's terrifying how talented she is, which she proves on hit. Synthesizers and Hatchie's hushed, yearning voice make "Stay With Me" euphoric, even as she recalls a romance that's ended. This cover of a Dire Straits song has managed to eclipse the original in pop culture, and doubles as a karaoke favorite. Here Birdman comes in handy as a useful example. We're more familiar with causes of death like heart attack , cancer and stroke. The translation sees dollar signs and the finer things in life on the singer's mind, but even as she ascends to pop domination, there's a cynicism to her tone over the upbeat song. It doesn't sound like disco in the slightest, but it sure is a movie-like party we're all longing for an invite to.

  • Press Record and Just Get the Hell out of the Way.”
MAVIS STAPLES “I’m the messenger,” Mavis Staples says on the eve of her 80th birthday. “That’s my job—it has been for my whole life—and I can’t just give up while the struggle’s still alive. We’ve got more work to do, so I’m going to keep on getting stronger and keep on delivering my message every single day.” That message—a clarion call to love, to faith, to justice, to brotherhood, to joy—lies at the heart of ‘We Get By,’ Staples’ spectacular twelfth studio album and first full-length collaboration with multi-GRAMMY Award-winner Ben Harper. Backed by her longtime touring band, Staples breathes extraordinary life into Harper’s compositions on the record, delivering roof-raising performances with both a youthful vigor and a commanding maturity. The arrangements here are spare but weighty, matched by Harper’s suitably lean and thoughtful production, and Staples seizes the opportunity to showcase her remarkable and continued evolution as an artist, one still growing and exploring more than half a century into her storied career. ‘We Get By’ is undoubtedly a timely collection, arriving such as it does in the face of deep social divisions and heightened political tensions, but like everything Staples touches, it’s also larger than any particular moment, a timeless appeal to the better angels of our nature that’s universal in its reach and unwavering in its assurance of better things to come. “When I first started reading the lyrics Ben wrote for me, I said to myself, ‘My God, he’s saying everything that needs to be said right now,’” Staples remembers.

He and Lauren are old friends, and they came in to track the al- bum with Sturgill’s band: Miles Miller on drums, Bobby Emmett on keyboards and synths, and Chuck Bartels on bass. Then Brad Walker came in for a day on sax—he’s toured with Sturgill in his horn section. Lauren would play the songs on piano by herself to the band and then they would figure out how to make each one unique. It’s easy when you’re making a singer-songwriter record to play piano and then put soft drums, bass and guitars on it, but Sturgill and Lauren made a conscious choice to make it more of a unique pop record, and part of that decision was to not put any guitars on it.
