2019-10-10 11:00 CEST Svanens tonstunge sange rammer VEGA VEGA præsenterer Svanens tonstunge sange rammer VEGA Med den maniske bandleder Michael Gira i front leverer Swans katedraler af soniske lydflader, der baserer sig på både støjrock, postpunk og neofolk i Store VEGA den 4. maj. Til oktober udgiver det anmelderroste støjrockband Swans deres første studiealbum siden The Glowing Man fra 2016. Albummet har fået titlen Leaving Meaning og udkommer på frontmand Michael Giras pladeselskab Young God. Bandet har udsendt en lille forsmag i form af den potente single ”Its Coming It´s Real”, der endnu en gang hiver lytteren ud i et eksperimenterende univers af fremdrevne rytmer, dronede guitarer og Giras kulsorte vokal. Albummet er skrevet og produceret af frontmanden. På albummet får den eminente sangskriver hjælp af et hav af samarbejdspartnere bl.a. medlemmer fra sideprojektet The Angels of Light, Norman Westberg, The Neck, Baby Dee samt Anna og Maria Von Hausswolff. Gira har opløst den nuværende Swans besætning for at arbejde i et mere omskifteligt setup. Han fortæller i pressemeddelelsen: “Swans is now comprised of a revolving cast of musicians, selected for both their musical and personal character, chosen according to what I intuit best suits the atmosphere in which I’d like to see the songs I’ve written presented.” Det amerikanske band påbegyndte tilbage i starten af 80´ernes deres vanvittige og tonstunge rockeksperimenter. Bandet er verdenskendt for deres energiske optrædener, hvor deres massive lyd rammer publikum klokkeklart i solar plexus. Swans blev dannet i New York i 1982 og albumdebuterede med Filth året efter. Tilbage i 2014 spillede bandet en fængslende koncert i Store VEGA, hvor Gaffa kvitterede med fem stjerner og skrev: "Hvor andre af 80'ernes relikvier for længst har opgivet teten eller er gået schlagernes vej, stod Swans denne aften som et sprællevende eksempel på, at alder blot er et tal." Det er åtte år siden legendariske Swans ga ut studioalbumet «The Seer» og besøkte Parkteatret sist. 5. august blir det igjen intimkonsert med undergrunnsrockerne fra New York her på huset. Billetter i salg fredag kl. 10.00. Post-punkbandet Swans, med Michael Gira i front, er selve pionerene innen industriell og mørk undergrunnsrock. Bandet ble dannet i New York tidlig på 80-tallet, og er kjent for sine brutale, støyende og repeterende låter og ekstreme tekster. Swans tilhørte opprinnelig New Yorks no wave-scene, men utviklet senere musikken ved å blant annet inkludere akustiske partier. Etter at de hadde ligget i dvale siden 1997, ble rockemonsteret vekket til live igjen i 2010: Den første plata på tretten år, «My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky», innfridde alle forventninger og litt til. Heldigvis for fansen, var ikke ventetiden før neste utgivelse like lang, og siden 2010 har vi fått gleden av flere kritikerroste album fra bandet – nå sist «Leaving Meaning» fra oktober i fjor. “Leaving Meaning is the first Swans album to be released since I dissolved the lineup of musicians that constituted Swans from 2010 – 2017. “‘The Glowing Man’: A Critical Analysis of a Social Media Disclosure of Sexual Violence in the Field of Cultural Production” by Christopher Worden A Thesis presented to The University of Guelph In partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Sociology Guelph, Ontario, Canada © Christopher Worden, September, 2017 ABSTRACT “‘The Glowing Man’: A Critical Analysis of a Social Media Disclosure of Sexual Violence in the Field of Cultural Production” Chris Worden Advisor: University of Guelph, 2017 Dr. Mavis Morton This thesis examines the discourse surrounding an online disclosure of sexual violence in the music field. Research questions addressed three things: 1. The discursive role of symbolic capital and the field of cultural production; 2. The extent to which features of the online feminist counter-public were represented; and 3. How the logic of the music field and strategies of the online feminist counter-public contributed to accused and complainant outcomes. A critical thematic analysis of the online discourse demonstrated that symbolic capital and position were deployed to defend the accused and discredit the complainant. The response of the online feminist counter-public countered some discrediting discourse common in sexual assault cases, but did not fully engage with the logic of the field of cultural production that was used to discredit the complainant in this case. Surrender! Take us! Take us! … The sun, a son, a child, a sun. I see us, take us, Take us! Take us! Save us! Save us! Save us! Save us! Children: I am blind, Children: I am blind. I am blind. I am blind .…“. Michael Gira hat wieder etwas zu sagen. In seiner ganz eigenen Art. Wie bei jedem Album zuvor, vor allem aber bei den letzten monumentalen Großtaten „The Seer“ sowie „To Be Kind“, haben die Swans mit „The Glowing Man“ ihrer eigene Hölle geschaffen – eine zweistündige Tortur in acht Abschnitten, auf die man sich nur widerstandslos einlassen kann. Zugleich ist „The Glowing Man“ auch eine Zäsur, ist es doch das letzte Album der gegenwärtigen Swans-Inkarnation. Ein Ende mit Ankündigung. Mantra-gleich spuckt Gira seine Statements ins Auditorium, eingebettet in monolithische Stücke, die wieder einmal großzügig zu halbstündigen Exzessen ausgeweitet werden. ‚Cloud For Forgetting‘ verursacht schon zu Beginn einen hypnotischen Sog, der das ganze Album über anhält. ‚Cloud Of Unknowing‘, ‚Frankie M‘ und der brachiale Titeltrack hieven uns in ein Paralleluniversum, in dem die Chaostheorie vorherrscht.
