4 welcome!

It is my great pleasure to join with your host, Governor John Bel Edwards, to welcome you to the 2018 JAG National Training Seminar! We are so glad you are here.

JAG-Louisiana has a 25-year+ track record of success, and we are grateful to Governor Edwards for serving as our national Vice Chair and for the extraordinary work he has done to more than double the scale of JAG-Louisiana.

You are the backbone and the heart and soul of Jobs for America’s Graduates. You have delivered extraordinary results for more than 1.25 million American youth who are succeeding in school and in life despite facing many challenges. The results of the Class of 2017 will be announced here at the National Training Seminar. And once again, these results will demonstrate that you know how to take JAG to the next level –a phrase I have been using to describe our plans for JAG-Indiana.

I am committed to adding the JAG program to 250 more high schools in addition to our current 137, bringing Jobs for America's Graduates to nearly every high school in Indiana before the end of my first term. Like Governor Edwards, I have seen the extraordinary impact that you and your colleagues can have on your students. For many, Jobs for America's Graduates is their best hope for a successful career and productive life.

That is why your JAG state organization sent you here. You have demonstrated a convincing commitment to helping young people reach the next level. You have further demonstrated that these are, indeed, young people of truly extraordinary promise – if they are given the opportunity to achieve.

I know you will take full advantage of the great leaders who are here with you. Assembled here are the leaders of our team across the nation who have delivered these truly extraordinary results for the Class of 2017– and for the 38 classes before them.

I know you will learn much from the National Training Seminar and the people around it. The Class of 2018 and the incoming Class of 2019 are counting on you. I know that their faith and their hope are especially well placed in you.

Thank you so much for all you do for the young people of Jobs for America’s Graduates.

On their behalf – thank you!

Eric Holcomb, Governor of Indiana Chair, Jobs for America’s Graduates Board of Directors

5 6 O n behalf of the management team of Jobs for America's Graduates, we are so excited to have you here – and just in time for the announcement of the results for the Class of 2017 that, once again, have taken JAG to the next level.

Those of you attending our National Training Seminar this week have a special opportunity before you to get together with your colleagues from around the country to further develop your skills and expertise, and learn about new tools and techniques to ensure an even better experience for the Class of 2019, while helping to transition the Class of 2018 to jobs, higher education, or both.

This has been a year of success for the young people you served – and we have seen major growth in a number of our State Affiliates.

Many of our Governors have made major proposals for increased funding for State Affiliates that have resulted in some of the largest increases ever in JAG’s history. Very substantial new investments in JAG have been committed by State Legislatures and Governors from Maine to Arizona and from Louisiana to Indiana. As we prepare for the opening of the new school year, we can comfortably project the addition of 50-75 new schools in the National Network for the 2018-19 school year. As highlighted in Governor Holcomb’s letter, he is committed to adding 250 more new schools in Indiana alone over the next 2-3 years. We are very excited about achieving that goal.

It is especially appropriate that we are holding this event in New Orleans, as Governor Edwards, our Vice Chair, has more than doubled the scale of the program here to 123 schools. Further, JAG-Louisiana has continued to earn the “5 of 5 Award” each year, even with that dramatic expansion. Amazingly enough, with all that work, they will still show us a great time here.

Therefore, this NTS will be both a learning event and a special celebration of the success of Jobs for America's Graduates overall, and the many Specialists and state organizations who deserve full recognition for their individual successes.

As our Board leadership Governors say in their welcome letters, you are the core leaders of the organization. You make us very proud to be part of Jobs for America's Graduates.

Congratulations on a great year of success, and on your leadership in your own communities and states on behalf of the young people who have shown, convincingly, just how well they can flourish with your help.

Welcome! its good to Ken Smith President Jobs for America's Graduates have you here! 7 5-OF-5 RECOGNITION Class of 2017 "5-of-5" States - 22
