It was the key to distributing the Grande postcards on the street and in schools. Volunteers, mostly high-school-aged kids, would get a stack of cards to pass out, plus a free pass to the Grande for themselves. Russ Gibb, who ran the Grande Ballroom, says that this was the ticket, so to speak, to bring in the crowds. While posters in Detroit did not have the effect that posters in San Francisco had, and handbills were only somewhat better, the cards turned out to actually work best. These cards are quite rare. IE6.8 REPORT FOR ACTION Vision Zero 2.0 - Road Safety Plan Update Date: June 13, 2019 To: Infrastructure and Environment Committee From: General Manager, Transportation Services and General Manager, Solid Waste Management Services Wards: All SUMMARY With a renewed commitment to the safe systems approach, this report presents the City of Toronto's update to the Vision Zero Road Safety Plan ("RSP") (2016) - Vision Zero 2.0.While the 2016 RSP included a larger set of mostly shorter term improvements, Vision Zero 2.0 recommends a set of more extensive, more proactive and more targeted initiatives, informed by data and aimed at eliminating serious injury and fatalities on Toronto's roads. While the number of serious injury collisions have remained relatively steady over the past decade, the number of fatal collisions in the past 5 years has seen a general increase compared to the previous 5 years. The upward trend is most notably seen in pedestrian fatalities. Compared to 2016, the year with a ten-year record high of 78 traffic fatalities, the number of fatalities in the past two years appears to have begun to decline. However, no loss of life as a result of traffic collisions is acceptable in a Vision Zero approach, and addressing road safety continues to be a priority for residents, elected officials and staff. The Vision Zero philosophy is a significant departure from the traditional approach to road safety. This transformative change will take several years to fully establish. As Vision Zero solutions are planned and implemented, there are circumstances when decisions to improve road safety may result in outcomes at odds with other objectives like reducing motor vehicle delay. -

FEBRUARY 2021 Captain's Message The Primary Message for Super Bowl 55, currently scheduled to be held on February 7, 2021, is “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.” It is estimated that two out of every three of the approximate 200 million drivers on America’s roadways drink alcoholic beverages at one time or another before driving. When there is a special event to celebrate, such as the Super Bowl, some people consume alcoholic beverages much more frequently. Even one drink, especially on a nearly empty stomach, can cause a driver to become dangerous. Remember to be cautious of possible DUI drivers on the roadway and don’t drink and drive. Vision Zero is a ten-year-long traffic safety program that strives to eliminate fatal and severe injury traffic collisions by the Year 2025. Vision Zero was implemented here in Los Angeles in the Year 2015. West Traffic Division’s partnership with the community to decrease traffic-related deaths and injuries through education, enforcement, and special programs will help us achieve Vision Zero goals. Community forums, sobriety checkpoints, the Hit and Run Rewards Program, and student education via “LA Street Smarts,” are a few of the strategies in use as part of this safety campaign. A newly developed “Preventative Collision Tool” will be available to bicyclists via the Vision Zero website. A similar “Preventative Collision Tool” specific to pedestrian safety issues will also be available. Pedestrian Safety: The following California Vehicle Code (CVC) sections will be the focus for enforcing WTD’s child and pedestrian safety message. Following these Codes will help you and your loved ones arrive safely. -

Vision Zero Action Plan 2025 Lorem ipsum November 2020 City of Philadelphia 1 Letter from the Mayor James F. Kenney Fellow Philadelphians, Over the past three years, the Vision Zero Task Force has brought state and local government officials side-by-side with community and advocacy groups to work towards a goal of zero traffic deaths. Building on that progress, the Task Force has outlined Philadelphia’s path forward to Vision Zero in this next Five-Year Action Plan. These efforts build on the establishment of the Office of Complete Streets, as well as the work of my colleagues in City Council and the State Legislature, who have championed efforts towards making the streets safer. Our accomplishments this past three years include the installation of automated speed cameras on Roosevelt Boulevard, the addition of over 37 miles of new and upgraded bike lanes, including over 10 miles of protected bike lanes, and over 58 miles of improved streets. This year, a combination of the global pandemic, an escalating economic recession, and unrest tied to systemic racism and police brutality have all taken a toll on Philadelphia. We have also seen a dramatic increase in traffic deaths. The month of July 2020 was the worst single month during my administration as 24 Philadelphians lost their lives in crashes. These deaths are unacceptable and preventable. When I took office in 2016, I pledged my commitment to making Philadelphia streets safe for everyone, regardless of age, physical ability, or choice of transportation. The path to achieving Vision Zero is not accomplished easily and Zero traffic deaths by 2030. -

2009 Annual Report The only true test of values, either of men or of things, is that of their ability to make the world a better place in which to live. – Henry Ford Welcome and thanks from the chairman and the president For our region, our state, our country and the world, the year 2009 was one marked by great economic upheaval. Here in Southeast Michigan, it was felt in particularly profound ways, as we experienced historic and momentous change in what, for decades, had been our primary industrial base and the source of our global reputation. The impact on the American automotive industry was equaled, if not eclipsed, by a near-meltdown in the world’s financial markets. Throughout the country, it was a year of incredible challenge for our industries, our government, our institutions and our families. In such challenging times, institutions — particularly cultural institutions like The Henry Ford — become all the more important. In 2009, more than 1.6 million people were drawn to our campus, roughly 100,000 more than we had averaged during the previous several years. Why, in a time of such severe economic strain, did an increased number of people choose to spend time and discretionary resources visiting an American history complex? We believe the answer lies in The Henry Ford’s unique offerings; namely, the opportunity for families to immerse themselves in the optimism that infuses the stories of American innovation, ingenuity and resourcefulness that we present. They are traits that have successfully led us through the toughest and most challenging moments in our history. -

This article examines various major components of VZ: how VZ redefines road safety, how VZ principles and philosophies can be applied to modern car and road designs, and how VZ can be applied to traffic. Applications of these principles to real-world traffic infrastructure are explored in order to show policymakers the toolkits available to increase road safety while taking into consideration local contexts.
