  • Theory of the Beautiful Game: the Unification of European Football
Scottish Journal of Political Economy, Vol. 54, No. 3, July 2007 r 2007 The Author Journal compilation r 2007 Scottish Economic Society. Published by Blackwell Publishing Ltd, 9600 Garsington Road, Oxford, OX4 2DQ, UK and 350 Main St, Malden, MA, 02148, USA THEORY OF THE BEAUTIFUL GAME: THE UNIFICATION OF EUROPEAN FOOTBALL John Vroomann Abstract European football is in a spiral of intra-league and inter-league polarization of talent and wealth. The invariance proposition is revisited with adaptations for win- maximizing sportsman owners facing an uncertain Champions League prize. Sportsman and champion effects have driven European football clubs to the edge of insolvency and polarized competition throughout Europe. Revenue revolutions and financial crises of the Big Five leagues are examined and estimates of competitive balance are compared. The European Super League completes the open-market solution after Bosman. A 30-team Super League is proposed based on the National Football League. In football everything is complicated by the presence of the opposite team. FSartre I Introduction The beauty of the world’s game of football lies in the dynamic balance of symbiotic competition. Since the English Premier League (EPL) broke away from the Football League in 1992, the EPL has effectively lost its competitive balance. The rebellion of the EPL coincided with a deeper media revolution as digital and pay-per-view technologies were delivered by satellite platform into the commercial television vacuum created by public television monopolies throughout Europe. EPL broadcast revenues have exploded 40-fold from h22 million in 1992 to h862 million in 2005 (33% CAGR).

Look further to find out more about my production and directing experience in Sports. Productions This is my daily fare. Every year I take care of the production and direction of over 100 live television sport programmes. These programmes include many sports events, such as the matches in the Dutch Football Leaque, the Dutch National Football Team, the most important baseball tournaments and live coverage of boxing galas and other competitions. Besides this sports-based work, I also take care of the training of new directors. Television programmes I am specialised in live programmes that makes every fibre in your body feel the excitement and tension. • From the Desk of the Chairman
Page 1 PLAY TO THE WHISTLE Volume 13 FROM THE DESK OF THE CHAIRMAN Individual Highlights 1. Chairman’s Address 2. TNBMHL 3. Interview with Hideki 4. Appointment 5. National Veterans 6. Umpire Cup The year 2019 saw an early season taking off for the Malaysian Hockey League. 7. SUKMA 2018 The league consisted of some very high quality matches and for the Umpiring part of it, only the selected ones officiated. The teams were no short of talent, 8. National U14 roping in foreigners in their lineups. The Umpiring team too, for the first time in the history of the MHL had a foreign flavor, namely Hideki Kinoshita of Japan Kino had a great stint and easily adapted to the Malaysian hospitality and was easy to communicate with. The local Umpires did benefit very much from Kino just as Kino benefitted from the Malaysian’s. With this successful “test” stint, the Umpiring Committee is now looking into the prospects of engaging with a couple more exchange programs with top playing Nations in terms of Umpiring. As for our Umpires, the UC is pleased to note the progress that has taken place leading to the appointments of our umpires in the top Pro League of the FIH and the many FIH and AHF appointments our umpires have received in the various tournaments around the globe. For all these achievements, the UC would like to thank the parent body; the Malaysian Hockey Confederation who has played a pertinent role with is utmost support towards this achievement. The Umpiring fraternity in return pledges its support to the MHC and will uphold with integrity its promise to improve further the standards of Umpiring.

European Cups: August is the month of European Cups. Italian clubs won both elite Cups – Bussolengo defended the Premiere Cup and Bollate won the Cup Winners Cup. Congratulations go to the Italian Federation Board and their President, Andrea Marcon, as Italy dominated European female softball in 2018, by winning both female European Championships and both top European Cups. The Super Cup Men was played after the inaugural Intercontinental Cup in Prague and the rosters were full with Pick Ups players from the ICC participating countries. British teams dominated the Super Cup Coed Slowpitch where al; three medal positions were theirs. Team Europe: Team Europe was made up of players from 12 countries and was the first time the ESF has taken on such an incredible mission.
