[email protected] Manuscript received: 23 January 2012 Abstract. We present an inventory list of the herpetofauna of the Araripe bioregion by compiling data from zoological col- lections and available literature. We found 31 species of anurans of which nine are new records for the study area. Regard- ing reptiles, we found 78 species of which 14 are new records for the study area. Mabuya frenata was recorded for the first time in the State of Ceará. Our results show a higher diversity of reptiles and amphibians for the Araripe bioregion than previously supposed, reinforcing the need for establishing a new protected area in the region.
