Feb 2003 Two human cases of avian influenza H5N1 infection (one fatal) are confirmed in a Hong Kong family with a recent travel history to Fujian Province, China . A third family member died of severe respiratory disease while in mainland China, but no samples were taken. Subsequent Events Date Events in Animals Events in Humans 25 Nov A fatal human case of avian influenza 2003 H5N1 infection occurs in China in a 24-year-old man from Beijing and is attributed to SARS. This case is retrospectively confirmed in August of 2006 (as the 20th human case in China). 12 Dec Republic of Korea first reports H5N1 in 2003 poultry. Outbreaks continue through September 2004. Dec 2003 Two tigers and two leopards, fed on fresh – Jan chicken carcasses, die unexpectedly at a zoo in 2004 Thailand . Subsequent investigation identifies a H5N1 virus similar to that circulating in poultry. This is the first report of influenza causing disease and death in big cats. 8 Jan Viet Nam first reports H5N1 in poultry. 2004 Outbreaks continue to be reported on a regular basis. -

She Feeds the World (SFtW) Water Baseline Report on Crops in Targeted Villages Samalout District, Menia governorate, Egypt July 2020 Report Generated by: Dr. Mansour Abdel Rasoul Mohamed Consultant on Water Resources Management Engineering Introduction CARE International – Egypt is implementing the "She Feeds the World" (SFiW) project with funding funded by PepsiCo Foundation . The project’s, with the main objective of improving the health and nutrition status of 10,000 women small-scale farmers and theirtheir families. Targeting women of reproductive age from 18 to 49 and children under the age of two in the governorates of Giza, Beheira, Minya and Beni Suef SFtW will be operational between March 2019 to June 2020. Through SFtW, women and their households will gain access to productive resources, assets, support, information and the confidence they need to improve theirs and their communities’ livelihoods and nutritional outcomes. In relation to this, quality food production and income generation efforts will be boosted to enable women and men to feed their families more nutritious meals, build savings, grow their businesses, and ultimately improve their health and nutritional wellbeing. SFtW is set to achieve the following four project objectives - The project specifically seeks to impactyears of age, , through the following:Improving access to healthy and nutritious food for farmers and community members, focusing on improving nutrition for children and women of childbearing age. - Improving the production of agricultural crops by giving small-scale farmers access to necessary resources - Providing technical support to improve marketing and uptake of sound agricultural practices. - Improving market linkages and strengthening cooperation between the private sector and government to achieve food security. -

EGYPT 2015 HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY According to its constitution, Egypt is a republic governed by an elected president and a unicameral legislature. Domestic and international observers concluded the presidential election that took place in May 2014 was administered professionally and in line with the country’s laws, while also expressing serious concerns that government limitations on association, assembly, and expression constrained broad political participation. The constitution granted the president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, legislative authority until the election of the new parliament. Parliamentary elections occurred in several rounds from October through December, and the new parliament was scheduled to hold its first session on January 10, 2016. Domestic and international observers concluded that government authorities administered the parliamentary elections professionally and in accordance with the country’s laws. Observers expressed concern about restrictions on freedom of peaceful assembly, association, and expression and their negative effect on the political climate surrounding the elections. Civilian authorities maintained effective control over the security forces. The most significant human rights problems were excessive use of force by security forces, deficiencies in due process, and the suppression of civil liberties. Excessive use of force included unlawful killings and torture. Due process problems included the excessive use of preventative custody and pretrial detention, the use of military courts to -

This article is an open access publication Abstract Determination of fault zone and hydro-geophysical characteristics of the fractured aquifers are complicated, because their fractures are controlled by diferent factors. Therefore, 60 VESs were carried out as well as 17 productive wells for determin- ing the locations of the fault zones and the characteristics of the carbonate aquifer at the eastern desert, Egypt. The general curve type of the recorded rock units was QKH. These curves were used in delineating the zones of faults according to the application of the new assumptions. The main aquifer was included at end of the K-curve type and front of the H-curve type. The subsurface layers classifed into seven diferent geoelectric layers. The fractured shaly limestone and fractured limestone layers were the main aquifer and their resistivity changed from low to medium (11–93 Ω m). The hydro-geophysical properties of this aquifer such as the areas of very high, high, and intermediate fracture densities of high groundwater accumulations, salinity, shale content, porosity distribution, and recharging and fowing of groundwater were determined. The statistical analysis appeared that depending of aquifer resistivity on the water salinities (T.D.S.) and water resistivities add to the fracture + − 2+ 2+ 2− density and shale content. -

Radwan Ibn El-Tabib Street, Giza, Egypt Abstract – In Egypt, an agro-industrial company, in association with a non-governmental organization, began setting up milk collection centres within producers’ organizations in 2011. The project was very active in the Beni Suef Governorate. This article analyses the milkshed evolution over the past 50 years and the project impact. Using interviews and historical data, a diachronic analysis was performed. The evolution can be divided into four phases: before 1980, dairy products were primarily sold on the local market; from 1980 to 2000, a “milkshed centred” development drove the dairy sector; from 2000 to 2011, the sector was driven by the demand in Greater Cairo; and since 2011, the arrival of the agro-industry has introduced new dynamics in local milk collection.
